SOLOMON, Kan.—
As the 2012-2013 basketball season heads into its second half, there are still three teams in the Wheat State League with unbeaten records in Wheat State play.The Solomon Gorillas are the lone boys team with an unblemished Wheat State record as they stand at 8-3 overall and 4-0 in Wheat State play. On the girls’ side, however, there are still two teams with undefeated WSL records as Goessel sits at 6-5, 3-0 and Little River sits with a 7-5, 2-0 record.
Solomon
The Solomon teams had the week off from action this past week and will return to the court Tuesday with a Wheat State doubleheader when they play host to Centre High School.
Hope
The Hope High School basketball teams returned to action on Friday when they played at Flint Hills Christian High School in Manhattan. The Lady Lions won their game against Flint Hills Christian 34-13 but the score from the boys’ game was not reported in.
Wakefield
Wakefield High School was the busiest Wheat State team this past week as the Bombers and Lady Bombers had action on Tuesday and Friday nights. Tuesday night Wakefield split two games with Blue Valley High School as the Bomber boys won 56-53 but the Lady Bombers fell 37-3. Friday night Wakefield split a Wheat State doubleheader with Centre High School and, once again, it was the Bomber boys that picked up the win as they downed the Cougars 52-51 after the Lady Bombers fell 43-23 to the Lady Cougars.
Little River
The Lady Redskins played their mid-season tournament at Ell-Saline High School where they went 1-2 and finished in third place in the four-team round robin tournament. The Lady Redskins opened the tournament with a 53-39 loss to Ell-Saline and followed with a 40-25 loss to Lyons before closing the tournament with a 37-34 win over Bennington. The Redskin boys had the week off.
White City
The Huskies and Lady Huskies basketball teams were in action on Tuesday this past week when they split two games with Southern Cloud High School as the Lady Huskies lost 53-42 but the Huskies boys followed that with a 55-43 victory for their 12th win this season against just two losses.
Centre
Centre High School got back into Wheat State action on Friday evening when they split two games with Wakefield High School. The Lady Cougars opened the evening with a 43-23 win over Wakefield, but the Cougar boys were not able to keep the momentum alive as they fell to the Bomber boys 52-51.
Goessel
The Lady Bluebirds played their mid-season tournament this past week at Berean Academy High School where they Lady Bluebirds went 2-1 and placed third. The Lady Bluebirds opened the tournament with a 42-34 win over Bluestem but lost 41-21 to host Berean Academy in the semifinals before bouncing back and defeating Douglass 41-34 in the consolation finals. The Bluebird boys were in action on Friday night but suffered a 70-35 loss to Moundridge.
Peabody Burns
The Warrior and Lady Warrior basketball teams had the week off and will return to the basketball courts on Tuesday when they play a Wheat State doubleheader at Elyria Christian, which also had the week off.
Elyria Christian
The Elyria Christian basketball teams took last week off and will return to action Tuesday night when they play host to Peabody Burns in a Wheat State doubleheader, the Eagles and Lady Eagles will also be in action on Thursday night when they play host to Inman High School and will also play host to St. Xavier High School on Friday night.
