SOLOMON, Kan.—
As the 2012-2013 Wheat State basketball season heads into the home stretch the White City boys and the Little River girls are sitting in control of their own destiny as far as Wheat State championships are concerned, but both teams still have some work to be done in the final two weeks.The White City boys currently stand with an 8-1 Wheat State record as the Huskies stand in first place with three games left in the regular season but none of those games are against Wheat State foes.
Solomon
The Gorillas and Lady Gorillas got swept by Little River on Tuesday and then played two games with Elyria Christian on Friday with the Lady Gorillas falling 46-35, but the score from the boys’ game with Elyria Christian was not reported in. Tuesday night the Lady Gorillas fell to Little River 31-28 in overtime and the Gorilla boys fell 64-56 to suffer their first Wheat State loss of the season.
Hope
The Lions and Lady Lions swept Wakefield High School on Tuesday and then split a pair of games with Little River High School on Friday. Tuesday the Lady Lions opened up play with a 44-26 win over Wakefield, which the Lion boys followed with a 54-50 victory. Friday night the Lady Lions picked up a 29-18 win over Little River but the Lion boys fell to Little River, 46-33.
Wakefield
The Wakefield High School basketball teams suffered through a rough week last week as they got swept by Hope on Tuesday night, with the boys falling 54-50 and the girls losing 44-26, and Friday night the Bombers and Lady Bombers got swept by Centre High School with the girls falling 39-16 and the boys losing 64-43.
Little River
The Little River basketball teams went 3-1 in their four games this past week as they swept two games from Solomon on Tuesday and then split a pair of games with Hope on Friday. Tuesday night the Little River girls opened with a 31-28 win overtime and the Redskin boys followed by handing Solomon its first Wheat State loss of the season, 64-56. Friday night the Lady Redskins fell to Hope 29-18 but the Redskin boys picked things back up as they defeated the Lion boys 46-33.
White City
The White City basketball teams swept two games from Goessel on Tuesdday and then had Friday night off. Tuesday night the Lady Huskies opened play with a 52-41 victory and the Huskies boys team followed with a 40-38 win over the Bluebirds.
Centre
This past week the Cougars and Lady Cougar went undefeated in their four games as they swept Elyria Christian on Tuesday night and followed that with a sweep of Wakefield on Friday. Tuesday the Lady Cougars opened the week with a 45-39 win over Elyria Christian and the Cougar boys completed the sweep with a 60-27 win. Friday night the Lady Cougars topped Wakefield 39-16 and the Cougar boys, once again, completed the sweep with a 64-43 victory.
Goessel
The Bluebird and Lady Bluebird basketball teams got swept by White City on Tuesday night with the Bluebird boys falling 40-38 after the Lady Bluebirds had suffered a 52-41 defeat. Friday night the Lady Bluebirds fell 35-29 to Peabody Burns and the Bluebird boys fell 54-37 to Peabody.
Peabody Burns
The Warriors and Lady Warrior basketball teams got swept by Remington High School on Tuesday night and turned things back around by sweeping Goessel on Friday night. Tuesday the Warrior boys fell 58-30 following a 42-33 loss by the Lady Warriors. Friday night, however, the Lady Warriors got the turn around started with a 35-29 win over Goessel and the Warrior boys continued the turn around with a 54-37 win over the Bluebirds.
Elyria Christian
The Eagles and Lady Eagles got swept by Centre High School on Tuesday night and Friday the Lady Eagles were able to get things turned around with a 46-35 win over Solomon, but the score of the Eagle boys game against Solomon was not reported in. Tuesday night the Lady Eagles fell to Centre 45-39 and the Eagle boys lost 60-27.
