SOLOMON, Kan.—
The 2012-2013 Kansas State Activities Association is not even a week old and the Wheat State League already has its first champion.The White City High School boys’ basketball team opened the season this past week with the Lebo Tournament and the Huskie boys’ team went 3-0 grabbing the team championship.
Solomon
The Gorilla and Lady Gorilla basketball teams opened up their seasons Friday night by playing host to Salina Sacred Heart, but got swept in the two games as the Lady Gorillas lost 44-34 and the Gorilla boys lost 63-57. The Solomon squads will return to the courts Tuesday night when they play host to Bennington on Tuesday and will play their first road games of the year Friday night when they play at Halstead.
Hope
The Hope basketball teams opened their seasons Friday night by splitting with Tescott High School. The Lady Lions opened the night with a 34-26 win over Tescott, but the Lion boys fell to Tescott 46-39. The Hope basketball teams will return to the courts this week when they compete in the Herington Tournament.
Wakefield
The Bombers and Lady Bombers basketball teams opened their seasons Friday by playing host to Sylvan-Lucas. The Lady Bombers lost their game 46-35 the score for the Bomber boys, however, was not available. Wakefield basketball teams will return to action this week when they compete in the Herington tournament.
Little River
The Redskin and Lady Redskin basketball teams opened their season Friday night against Moundridge and got swept in the two games as the Lady Redskins lost 32-22 and the Redskin boys fell 58-48. Little River will return to action this week when they compete in Goessel’s Bluebird Classic.
White City
White City High School got its basketball season off to a roaring start this past week when the Husky boys went 3-0 in the Lebo Tournament to earn the championship. The White City boys opened the tournament with a 54-33 win over Madison, followed with a 39-25 win over Hartford and finished off the 3-0 start to the season with a 60-54 win over Lebo. The Lady Huskies, however, got their season started in a direct opposite fasion as they lost all three games of the tournament, falling 56-37 to Madison on the opening night, 43-29 to Hartford on the second night and 45-15 to Lebo on the final night. White City will be in action this week when they play host to Flint Hills Christian on Friday night.
Centre
The Cougars and Lady Cougars got their season off to a fast start on Friday when they swept two games from Junction City’s St. Xavier High School with the Cougar boys eclipsing the century-mark in points with a 107-36 win and the Lady Cougars earning a 58-12 victory. This week Centre will return to action when they compete in the Herington Tournament.
Goessel
The Bluebird and Lady Bluebird basketball teams began their season Friday night getting swept by Inman Friday night. The Bluebird boys fell 55-26 and the Lady Bluebirds lost 60-42. This week Goessel High School will be the site of lots of basketball as it plays host to the Bluebird Classic basketball tournament.
Peabody Burns
The Warrior and Lady Warrior basketball teams got their season started Friday night when they played at Chase County High School. The Lady Warriors lost their game 43-20 while the boys’ score was not reported in. This week Peabody Burns High School’s basketball teams will play at the Marion Classic.
Elyria Christian
The Elyria Christian basketball teams got off quickly to the season when they swept two games from Canton-Galva High School as the Lady Eagles won their game 35-21 and the Eagle boys won 42-34. Elyria Christian will have a week off before returning to the court on Dec. 11 when they play at Centre High School.
