WICHITA, Kan.—
Week four is in the books and teams are showing their true colors. We are now getting a taste of which teams talk the talk and which actually walk the walk. Catch up on all this week’s happenings with the fourth catch-all of the season.GWAL
The game of the night for the Wichita city league came at the newly renovated Heights stadium where Kapaun held a 6-0 lead until the final few minutes of the game. With just minutes left, Forlanda Parker found Myron Singleton for the game-tying touchdown. On the next series, Heights’ Rashiid Arnold picked off a Coen Rasmussen pass and returned it for what would prove to be the game-winning touchdown. Heights then held Kapaun on a two-point conversion to win 14-12.
Bishop Carroll used a four-touchdown second quarter to fly past West 59-13. East used a consistent attack to take down South 34-7.
Thursday – Northwest was challenged to start the second half by Southeast, but proved to be too much down the stretch for the Golden Buffaloes 56-28.
AVCTL
Newton ran with Hutchinson early, but the Salthawks were able to pull away and finish the job 48-29. Campus traveled to Salina South and the Cougars handed the Colts a 49-7 beat down. Derby continues its run through 6A, this time over Salina Central 47-13. Maize South moved to 4-0 on the season by taking down Andover Central 33-21. Ark City shut out a struggling Eisenhower 49-0. Maize dominated Goddard 62-19.
McPherson busted out of its stumbling start against Buhler 44-28 to hand the Crusaders its second loss of the season. Mulvane proved why it’s the second-ranked team in 4A by taking El Dorado to the house 42-7. Rose Hill possibly righted the ship to the tune of a 28-12 win over Winfield. Andover got a win over Independence 48-0.
Clearwater squeaked by what appears to be an improved Augusta squad 28-20. Andale had no problems with the Thunderbirds of Circle 62-6. Wellington continued its poor start against Collegiate as the Spartans dominated the Crusaders 42-6.
CKL
Halstead continued its winning ways as it took down Sterling 48-16. Hillsboro moved to 4-0 on the year with a 33-23 win over a struggling Hesston team. Haven got a win tonight over Smoky Valley 21-13. Nickerson is off to a solid start with another win, this time over Kingman 30-14. Pratt kept Lyons in the dumps with a 40-12 thrashing.
CPL
Garden Plain was very Garden Plain-esque against Wichita Trinity 57-21. Belle Plaine handed Bluestem another loss 37-14. Conway Springs’ Tanner Wood had a huge night to the tune of 186 yards on 27 carries and 4 touchdowns en route to a 27-14 win over Cheney. Independent is off a surprising start as it moved to 2-2 on the year with a 27-6 win over Douglass.
GWAC
The Eagles of Colby took down Hugoton 21-0 Friday. Scott City ran all over Ulysses 49-13. Holcomb shut out Goodland 28-0.
HOA
The Inman Teutons took care of business against Marion 39-28. Sedgwick slid past Ell-Saline 19-12. Hutchinson Trinity took it to Remington 49-6.
Others
Manhattan absolutely destroyed Topeka Highland Park 61-6. Victoria nearly doubled up on Central Plain 40-22. The Longhorns of Thunder Ridge took down St. John’s of Beloit 46-12. Council Grove was shown no mercy by Lyndon 53-0. Lebo thrashed the Jaguars of Hartford 54-8. Phillipsburg ran past a struggling Smith Center 28-6. Oxford lost to huge rival Udall 47-21. LaCrosse's Levi Morss had a career night with 355 rushing yards to lead his team to a 42-22 win over Plainville.
