Northwest, led by Brett Johnson’s 16 points, took down the Pioneers of West 58-53. North dominated Heights 67-43. Conner Frankamp led all scorers with 26 points for North. East picked up its first win of the year with a 67-50 trouncing of Carroll. Carroll’s Christian Smith led all scorers with 19 points. Kapaun appears to remain as the top team in 5A with a 60-45 win over South.
AVCTL
Derby ran past Goddard in an 84-45 whitewash of the Lions. On the other side of highway 54, Eisenhower had a much better night as it beat Hutchinson 77-68. Eisenhower’s Trevon Evans dominated with 39 points. Campus jumped out to a 16-7 first-quarter lead and didn’t look back against Ark City as the Colts won 61-52. Campus’ Austin Vaden led all players with 18 points.
Andover Central dismantled Salina Central 54-37. Winfield slipped by Andale 57-54. El Dorado squeaked past Salina Sacred Heart in the Chapman Tournament with a 46-45 win.
CPL
The Owls of Garden Plain had a rough go of it against Rose Hill in a 60-41 dumper. Collegiate beat Cheney 54-38. Chaparral couldn’t run past the Hornets of Valley Center as they lost 78-61. Independent crushed Circle 73-57. Conway Springs destroyed Sterling 59-40.
CKL
Hesston got a bad roll of the dice in the Garden Plain Tournament as it met Emporia and got more than doubled up on in a 70-34 loss. Kingman picked up an early-season win with a 46-27 win over Medicine Lodge. Hillsboro took care of business against Moundridge 59-52 in a battle of ranked teams. The Teutons of Inman slid by Lyons 46-44. The Halstead Dragons caught fire in a 70-44 shellacking of Minneapolis.
Others
Abilene demolished Rock Creek 70-47 and Concordia beat the smaller Republic County 61-51. Beloit charged past the Tigers of Clay Center 64-58. Liberal acquired a win over Guymon (Okla.) 78-46. Bennington took down Solomon 48-34. Chapman beat Rossville 45-32.
