Although not all championship matches are set, several tournaments know the final two teams. All the others saw a more than a few close games come down to the wire. Catch up on all the action from Thursday's tournament action.
Berean Academy Tournament
In the semifinals, Hutch Central Christian’s Jamie Patrick scored 36 points en route to a 50-39 win over Word of Life to advance to the finals. Berean found themselves on the winning end of a 49-22 score over Wichita Trinity. Berean and Central Christian will play for the Eli J. Walter Tournament Title.
In the consolation semifinals, Burrton slipped past Bluestem 48-44. Douglass took down Goessel 35-21.
El Dorado Tournament
Collegiate took down El Dorado 55-47. El Dorado’s Hannah Helfrich scored 19 points in the loss. Collegiate’s Keli Dunn led her team with 16. East cruised by Valley Center 37-27 behind 17 points from Relina Johnson.
Thirteen players scored for Shawnee Mill Valley in a 77-25 beat down of Wichita West. Circle beat Augusta 38-25 and will face Collegiate in the semifinals. East will see Mill Valley in the other semifinal game.
Emporia Tournament
Maize flew by Wichita Northwest 60-31. Maize’s Keiryn Swenson scored 16 points and Paige Lungwitz contributed 15 in the win. Hutchinson came away with the 66-57 win over host Emporia. Hutchinson’s Shelby Morford led all players with 25 points. Emporia’s Kayne Hastings scored 18 to lead her team.
Topeka Highland Park took down Shawnee Heights and Olathe South beat Great Bend 68-32. Hutch will meet Olathe South in the semifinals and Highland Park will see Maize in the other semifinal game.
Haven Tournament
Haven jumped out to a 16-0 first-quarter lead and never looked back in the 56-26 drubbing of winless Nickerson. Eleven players scored for Haven in the win. Conway Springs dominated Halstead 41-19. Ulysses beat Cheney 43-24 behind 19 points from Kaylea Britton. Moundridge came away with the 40-33 win over Kingman behind 15 points from MacKenzie Suderman.
Moundridge will face Haven in the semifinals and Ulysses will play Conway Springs in the next round.
McPherson Tournament
Buhler pushed Andale to the very end, but was unable to finish it off as Andale won 43-39. Brittney Meyer and Jill Ast both scored 12 points for the Lady Indians. Hays needed overtime to take down Manhattan 58-55. Hays’ Paige Lunsford scored 21 points to lead all players. Andale and Hays will meet in the semifinals.
Gardner-Edgerton cruised past Beloit 37-27 behind 10 points from Kari Devlin. McPherson destroyed Goddard 80-28. McPherson's Taylor Hein went 7-for-7 from behind the arc and as a team, the Lady Bullpups drained 13 treys. McPherson and Gardner-Edgerton will meet in the semifinals.
Mulvane Tournament
In the consolation semifinals, Clearwater took care of Campus to the tune of a 41-35 win. Maize South took down Ark City 51-46. Clearwater will face Maize South in the fifth place game.
Wellington nearly doubled-up on Wichita Southeast 58-30 to advance to the finals. Garden Plain slipped by host Mulvane 52-45 to advance to the finals and meet Wellington.
Newton Tournament
Kapaun took down SM Bishop Miege 60-53 in the first round of the Newton Tournament. Olathe Northwest flew by Rose Hill 64-44. Andover Central dominated Garden City 56-34. Dodge City took Newton to the very end, but Newton was able to hold on for the 30-28 win.
Kapaun will face Newton in the semifinals. Olathe Northwest will meet Andover Central in the semifinals.
Pratt Tournament
Pratt took a 43-3 lead into the break and came away with a 71-13 win over North JV. Pratt’s Aubrey Hoover led all players with 20 points, 18 of which came in the first half. The North Varsity more than doubled-up on Chaparral 79-32. North’s Naomi Rosales led all players with 17 points. She added 11 rebounds for the double-double. Maddie Northcutt scored 13 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for the double-double for North.
St. John-Hudson took down Medicine Lodge 50-21. Wichita South beat Larned 36-22. St. John will face North in the semifinals. South will meet host Pratt in the other semifinal game.
Sedgwick Tournament
In the consolation semifinals, Belle Plaine beat Independent 46-34 and Fairfield held on for the 50-47 win over Canton-Galva.
In the semifinals, Remington will advance to the finals after edging Inman 39-37. The Lady Broncos will meet Hutch Trinity. The Lady Celtics took down host Sedgwick 44-30.
