The Lady Spartans are looking forward to the new season with a team full of new players. With only two returning seniors, the team will look to its underclassmen to step up to be competitive.

Last year, the team ended its season with a record of 8-13. The Spartans are looking to improve upon the previous finish with seniors Jerica Skar and Keli Dunn. The new members of the team are thirteen freshmen. The team is going to rely on freshmen Alex Payne, Addison Root and Nia Tolbert as well as returning junior Jordan Hull to step up and contribute heavily to the varsity team.

"[We have] 13 freshmen out of the total of 17 players. At some point everyone is going to have to step up in whatever situation that they are in," said Head Coach Terrance Phox.

"Points could come from a variety of places, but [we are] mainly relying on the seniors early in the season," said Phox.

Phox went on to say that communication on the court and team defense is going to be the main focuses of the team for this year.

Dunn is very excited for the season to get underway.

"I am looking forward to looking back on the progress we will have made at the end of the season. With such little experience in the team, there is a huge amount of room for progress," said Dunn.

The team also hopes to be competitive this year as well, but it is hard to know how much because of the lack of practice as a team so far.

"I think that if everybody on the team really works all season that we will have a good chance of winning our league," said Dunn.

The Lady Spartans kick off their season against Cheney High at Cheney on Tuesday, December 4th.
