Rose Hill and El Dorado duked it out on Friday at BG Products Veterans Sports Complex in El Dorado. Rose Hill came into the game with a record of 1-4, with the only win coming against Winfield. El Dorado came into the game with a record of 0-5.
In the end, El Dorado finished the night like it started, still winless, as Rose Hill came away with a 52-21 win.
Rose Hill struck first with 8:04 left in the first as senior running back Jonny Pearson scored from 3 yards out. El Dorado tied it up with 4:54 left in the first as junior quarterback Travis House connected to senior wide receiver Kyle Macy on fourth down for the score. Then, Rose Hill scored twice in the first on a 14-yard run by junior running back Garrett Forsberg and then a 26-yard catch by Forsberg from senior quarterback TJ Slade.
In the second quarter Rose Hill added a 30-yard field goal by senior Austin Dinkel, Slade connected to junior wide receiver Bret Waddell for a 47-yard score and a score from 30-yards out.
El Dorado scored for the second time on the night as House ran it in from 42 yards out. Rose Hill struck back as Forsberg ran it in from four yards out. Rose Hill made it 52-14 with 9:26 left to play as junior quarterback Jordan Reed ran it in from 29 yards out. El Dorado scored with 1:08 left as junior running back Tucker Sherman from four yards out.
Rose Hill Coach Greg Slade, said there was some learning to do.
“We had to come out and play and we played really good tonight,” Slade said. “Our guys really stepped it up tonight, getting ready for district play.”
Individually for Rose Hill was Pearson with 18 carries for 95 yards and a touchdown. Slade was 7-11 for 238 yards and two touchdowns. Leading receiver for Rose Hill was Waddell with six catches for 210 yards and two touchdowns. For El Dorado, House was the leading rusher with 15 carries for 111 yards and a touchdown, he was 16 of 33 for 203 yards and an interception. Leading receiver for El Dorado was senior wide receiver Trevor Crain with seven catches for 95 yards.
Rose Hill (2-4) will host Augusta in District play, while El Dorado (0-6) will host Maize South to open district play.
