Tonight marked the opening round of the playoffs for classes 6A, 5A and 2-1A, and there were some solid games. Others, however, were blowouts. Check below to catch up on all the action from around the state.

Class 6A

The 8-1 Derby Panthers took on the 1-8 North Redskins and didn’t mess around with a 70-7 domination. Dodge City took down Manhattan in surprising fashion by a score of 38-6. The Red Demons will host Derby in the quarterfinals of state. Topeka ran by Wichita Northwest 42-13. The Trojans will meet perennial power Hutchinson, a team that took down Heights 42-7.

The Hawks of Olathe East will travel to Lawrence to take on the Firebirds of Free State. Olathe East beat Shawnee Mission East 17-7. Free State took down Olathe North 38-22. Lawrence held on against Gardner-Edgerton 34-32 to move on to the quarterfinals. Shawnee Mission West beat Blue Valley Northwest 34-14.

Class 5A

Bishop Carroll faced its first real test of the season in the form of Hays and took care of business 52-27. Andover went to Ark City to end the Bulldogs’ season 31-14. Carroll will travel to Andover to take on the Trojans in next week’s quarterfinals. Emporia was too much for Andover Central in the form of a 55-27 beat down. The Spartans will face Salina South in a battle of two 9-1 teams. South absolutely beat Goddard 62-21.

Blue Valley Stilwell now sits at 6-4 after beating Shawnee Heights 17-10. Stilwell will host a 9-1 St. Thomas Aquinas squad that whitewashed Lansing 50-20. Blue Valley West took down Topeka Seaman 54-21 and will travel to Bishop Miege to take on the Stags. Miege upset the 8-1 Mill Valley Jaguars 41-23.

Class 2-1A

LaCrosse remained a perfect 10-0 Friday as it took down Ell-Saline 35-0. A now 7-2 Oakley moved on with its 14-12 win over an 8-1 Stanton County. Oakley will go to LaCrosse to take on the undefeated Leopards. Sterling upset the Smith Center Redmen 26-16. The now 4-6 Blackbears will travel to Meade (9-1). The Buffaloes took down Decatur Community 47-0.

Centralia moved to 10-0 on the year with its 46-7 win over Jefferson County North. Centralia will go to Olpe (8-2) after the Eagles beat Onaga 28-20. Lyndon moved to a perfect 10-0 after shutting out Wabaunsee (2-7) 44-0.

Soccer Semifinals

Class 6A

Wichita Northwest, after losing most of its team to graduation last year, has yet again reched the state finals. Northwest took down Blue Valley Northwest 1-0. The Grizzlies will look to repeat as state champions against Topeka Washburn Rural Saturday. The Junior Blues beat Shawnee Mission East 1-0 to reach the finals.

Class 5A

Kapaun Mt. Carmel lost to Bishop Miege 4-1 and, just like last year, will play for third place. Bishop Miege will face Liberal in the state championship match. Liberal will try to repeat as state champions Saturday at the Topeka Hummer Sports Complex.

Class 4-1A

Topeka Hayden took down KC Christian 2-0 to advance to the state championship match. It will face Tonganoxie for the championship. Tonganoxie beat McPherson 3-1. McPherson and KC Christian will face off for third place.
