The mid-season basketball tournament slate is all but done for the North Central Activities Association in 2013 and the NCAA already has two champions and still has three more team still waiting for its mid-season tournament experience.
The Beloit Trojan boys and Russell Lady Broncos won all three games in their mid-season tournament quests at Sterling (Beloit) and Hoisington (Russell) while the Southeast of Saline Lady Trojans are the lone NCAA team still remaining as they will compete in the Barton County Tournament which will be played this week.
Sacred Heart
Sacred Heart High School remained in its home town of Salina for its mid-season tournament as the Knights and Lady Knights competed in the Salina Invitational with the Knights going 1-2 and finishing in sixth place with their lone win being a 66-59 win over top-seeded Concordia in the consolation semifinals while the Lady Knights also went 1-2 with their lone win being a 35-31 win over Smoky Valley in the seventh-eighth place game.
Minneapolis
The Lions and Lady Lions competed in the Hoisington Tournaments with the Lion boys going 2-1 to finish third with wins coming against LaCrosse 44-34 in the opening round and Ellinwood 60-34 in the third-fourth place game. The Lady Lions, meanwhile, went 1-2 with their lone win being a 54-32 win over LaCrosse in the seventh-eighth place game.
The Lion wrestling team competed at Beloit where they finished in 12th place with 65 points.
Southeast of Saline
The Trojan boys traveled to Canton-Galva for their mid-season tournament where they went 2-1 with a 63-50 win over Sedgwick in the opening round and a 51-42 win over Wichita Homeschool in the third-fourth place contest. The Lady Lions took the week off and will begin play in the Berean Academy Tournament this week. The Southeast of Saline wrestling team competed in the Council Grove Dual Tournament on Saturday where they finished with a 3-2 record and placed fifth.
Russell
The Bronco and Lady Bronco basketball teams competed in the Hoisington Tournament where the Bronco boys were 0-3 while the Lady Broncos were 3-0 to win the tournament after wins over Otis-Bison (60-26), Ellsworth (52-32) and Ellinwood 55-40 in the championship game.
The Russell wrestling team competed at the Hays Tournament where they finished in 17th place with 51 points.
Beloit
The Beloit athletic department got split up this past week as the Trojan boys competed at the Sterling Tournament where they 3-0 to win the title, the Lady Trojans traveled to Colby where they went 1-2 and the Beloit wrestling team stayed at home where it hosted its annual tournament. The Trojan boys won the tournament title with 73-45 win over Bluestem, a 52-34 win over Lyons and a 74-68 win over Maize South in the championship game. The Lady Trojans, meanwhile, went 1-2 at Colby with their only win being a 38-32 win over Scott City in the 7th-8th place contest.
The Trojan wrestling team finished with 78 points in their own tournament to finish in 11th place.
Ellsworth
The Ellsworth basketball teams competed in the Hoisington Tournaments where the Bearcat boys went 1-2 with their lone win being a 73-50 win over Russell in the 7th-8th place game while the Lady Bearcats went 2-1 with wins over Minneapolis (43-32) and Victoria (57-47) to finish in third place in the tournament.
The Bearcat wrestling team traveled to Hays for a tournament where they placed 18th with 39 points.
Republic County
The Buffs and Lady Buff basketball teams competed in the Hillsboro Classic Tournaments where the Republic County boys went 2-1, falling in the championship game to Holcomb (47-37), with wins over Hillsboro 46-42 and Wamego 44-37 while the Lady Buffs finished 1-2 with their only win being a 46-21 win over Goodland in the opening round.
The Republic County wrestling team competed in the Beloit Invitational where they finished in 18th place with 20 points.
