As 2013 begins in the North Central Activities Association there is only one basketball team still guarding an undefeated season and as the wrestling teams switched over to 2013 teams switched places in the NCAA standings with Beloit now sitting on top of the standings.
Beloit defeated Russell 38-32 Thursday night in the only NCAA wrestling dual of the evening which pushes the Trojans into first place in the NCAA standings with a 3-0 NCAA record this season.
Friday night also offered up a strictly NCAA showdown in three different towns with Beloit splitting with Russell, Southeast of Saline sweeping Minneapolis and Republic County sweeping Ellsworth.
Sacred Heart High School has not begun activities in the athletic world in 2013. They had Friday night off and will kick things off this Tuesday evening when they play a doubleheader at Republic County.
Minneapolis High School’s basketball teams got swept by Southeast of Saline on Friday night with the boys falling 50-39 and the girls falling 45-33. The Lions and Lady Lions return to the court on Tuesday when they play host to Clay Center.
The Minneapolis wrestling team placed second at Ellsworth on Saturday with 124 points.

The Trojans and Lady Trojan basketball teams opened 2013 by sweeping Minneapolis on Friday with the boys winning 50-39 and the Lady Trojans following suit with a 45-33 win.
The Southeast of Saline wrestling team competed at Ellsworth on Saturday where they scored 57.5 points to place seventh.
The Russell basketball teams split with Beloit on Friday night with the girls opening the evening with a 49-40 victory but the Bronco boys suffered a 64-16 loss.
The Bronco wrestling team also fell to Beloit 38-32 to open 2013 and then placed 11th with 32 points on Saturday at the Salina South tournament.
The Trojan and Lady Trojan basketball teams opened 2013 on Friday night by splitting with Russell High School as the Lady Trojans opened with a 49-40 loss but the Trojan boys bounced back to earn a split on the night with a 64-16 victory.
The Beloit wrestling team took over the top spot in the NCAA wrestling standings with a 38-32 NCAA dual victory over Russell on Thursday night and then scored 76.5 points to earn 8th place at the Norton tournament on Saturday.
The Bearcat and Lady Bearcat basketball teams opened 2013 by getting swept by Republic County on Friday night as the Ellsworth girls lost 51-29 and Bearcat boys followed with a 71-41 defeat.
The Ellsworth wrestling team hosted a tournament on Saturday to open 2013 where they finished with 46 points to finish in 9th place.
The Republic County basketball teams opened 2013 with a sweep of Ellsworth with the Lady Buffs opening the evening with a 51-29 win and the Buff boys completing the sweep with a 71-41 victory.
The Buff wrestling team will open 2013 this coming Saturday when they compete in a tournament in Marysville.
