The Republic County Lady Buff basketball team suffered its first North Central Activities Association loss of the season this past week, yet even with the loss the Lady Buffs are the lone NCAA winter team that stands in control of its league destiny as the season heads into the final stretch of the winter season.

The Lady Buffs are currently 8-1 in NCAA action while Ellsworth, which handed Republic County its lone NCAA loss this past Friday, currently stands in second place in the NCAA standings with a 6-4 NCAA record.

In the boys’ NCAA standings Beloit has a slim lead with a 9-1 NCAA record while Republic County stands just percentage points behind the Trojans with an 8-1 NCAA record.

In wrestling, the NCAA title has been decided. The decision? It will be shared amongst three NCAA teams. Beloit, Minneapolis and Russell all finished with 4-1 NCAA records and each beat the other meaning the title will be shared amongst the three schools.

Sacred Heart

The Knights and Lady Knights split with Russell High School on Tuesday and then had Friday night off. Tuesday the Lady Knights fell to Russell, 40-37, but the Knight boys bounced back to pick up a 60-23 victory.

Minneapolis

The Minneapolis basketball teams split with Ellsworth on Tuesday and then split with Southeast of Saline on Friday night. Tuesday the Lady Lions fell 43-38 but the Lion boys bounced back to earn a 48-42 victory. Friday night the Lady Lions earned a 32-20 victory before the Lion boys fell 43-42.

The Minneapolis wrestling team forced a three-way NCAA tie when they picked up a 43-34 NCAA dual victory over Beloit on Thursday. The Lions are now off until this Friday and Saturday when they compete in the Garden Plain Regional tournament.

Southeast of Saline

The Southeast of Saline basketball teams split games with Beloit on Tuesday and then also split games with Minneapolis on Friday. Tuesday night the Lady Trojans began the night by picking up a 50-43 win over Beloit but the Trojan boys were not able to keep the winning going as they fell to Beloit 46-27. Friday night the Lady Trojans fell 32-20 to Minneapolis but the Trojan boys were able to pick up a 43-42 win in the nightcap.

The Southeast of Saline wrestling team fell 42-34 in their final NCAA dual of the year on Thursday and then placed second on Saturday in the Remington Tournament after erning 148 points. The Trojan wrestlers will compete on Friday and Saturday in the Garden Plain Regional Tournament.

Russell

The Russell High School basketball teams split two games with Sacred Heart High School on Tuesday and then got swept by Beloit High School on Friday. Tuesday night the Lady Broncos opened the night with a 40-37 victory but the Bronco boys could not keep the winning alive as they fell 60-23. Friday night the Lady Broncs fell 46-41 to Beloit and the Bronco boys fell 75-36.

The Russell wrestling team beat Southeast of Saline 42-24 on Thursday night and is now off until this Friday and Saturday when they compete in the Norton Regional tournament.

Beloit

The Trojan and Lady Trojan basketball teams split two games with Southeast of Saline High School on Tuesday and then swept Russell High School in a pair of games on Friday night. Tuesday night the Lady Trojans fell 50-43 but the Trojan boys picked things up by closing the night with a 46-27 victory. Friday night the Lady Trojans opened with a 46-41 victory over Russell, the Lady Trojans’ second NCAA win of the season, and the Trojan boys followed that win with a 75-36 win.

The Beloit wrestling team fell to Minneapolis 46-34 in an NCAA dual on Thursday evening and is now off until this coming Friday and Saturday when they compete in the Onaga Regional tournament.

Ellsworth

The Bearcat and Lady Bearcat basketball teams split with Minneapolis on Tuesday and then split with Republic County High School on Friday. Tuesday night the Lady Bearcats topped the Lady Lions 43-38 but the Bearcat boys followed with a 48-42 loss. Friday night it was the Lady Bearcats that picked up the win as they handed Republic County its first NCAA loss of the season, 36-33, but the Bearcat boys couldn’t keep the winning alive as they fell to the Buffs 68-43.

The Ellsworth wrestling team was scheduled for an NCAA dual against Republic County on Thursday but results from that dual were not reported in. This Friday and Saturday the Bearcats will be in Garden Plain for their regional tournament.

Republic County

The Republic County basketball teams stepped outside of NCAA action on Tuesday when they split a pair of games with the NCKL’s Clay Center High School as the Lady Buffs fell  33-24 but the Buff boys bounced back for a 56-37 win over the Class 4A Tigers. Friday night Republic County got back into NCAA action when they split a pair of games with Ellsworth High School. The Lady Buffs began the night with a 36-33 loss, Republic County’s first girls loss of the NCAA season, but the Buff boys, once again, were able to bounce back and pick up a 68-43 win.

The Republic County wrestling team was scheduled for an NCAA dual at Ellsworth on Thursday, but results of that dual were not reported in. The Buffs will next be in action this coming weekend when they compete in the 3-2-1A regional tournament at Onaga.
