Sacred Heart High School and Minneapolis High School are currently tied atop the North Central Activities Association football standings for the 2012 season with identical 2-0, 1-0 (NCAA) records after just two weeks of season play.

Southeast of Saline and Ellsworth are both still undefeated (1-0) in NCAA play, but the Trojans and Bearcats have one loss in play outside of NCAA action.

This week’s NCAA action games will be in Ellsworth and Beloit. In Ellsworth the Bearcats will play host to the Republic County Buffaloes while in Beloit the Trojans will play host to the Russell Broncos. The other three NCAA teams will play in non-conference action.

Sacred Heart

The Lady Knight volleyball team remained undefeated on the season Tuesday night when they swept two matches from Minneapolis, winning 25-17, 25-15 in the opening match and then needed three games to complete the sweep as they won 20-25, 25-21 and 25-19. The Lady Knights were also in action in the Southeast of Saline Invitational on Saturday where they went 1-3 and finished in sixth place. … The Sacred Heart cross country teams ran at Hesston on Thursday where the Lady Knights placed fourth with 12 points while the Knight boys placed second with 8 points. … The Knight football team remained undefeated on the season Friday night with a 77-6 win over Republic County and will look to remain undefeated this Friday night when they play at Sedgwick.

Minneapolis

The Lady Lion volleyball team saw its record fall to 0-6 on the young season Tuesday evening when they got swept in two matches by Sacred Heart. The Lady Lions lost the opener 25-17, 25-15 and then forced the second match to three games but still lost 20-25, 25-21, 25-19. The Lady Lions return to the court this Tuesday when they play host to Beloit on Tuesday. … The Minneapolis Lady Lion golfers competed at the Salina Central Invitational on Tuesday but did not have enough competitors to record a team score and didn’t have any individuals place in the top 10. … The Minneapolis cross country teams ran at Hesston on Thursday with the boys placing 15th with 109 points while the Lady Lions did not have enough runners to earn a team score. … The Lion football team remained undefeated on the young season Friday night with a 7-0 win over Washington County. The Lions will look to keep the winning alive this Friday night when they play at LaCrosse.

Southeast of Saline

The Lady Trojan volleyball team, which played host to their annual tournament on Saturday, began the week by taking two matches at Russell on Tuesday. Tuesday the Lady Trojans defeated Russell 25-14, 25-21 and 27-25, 25-20. Saturday the Lady Trojans played host to a tournament where they went 1-2 and finished in fourth place. …  The Southeast of Saline cross country teams ran at Hesston on Thursday where the Trojan boys finished in third place in the lower classifications race with 35 points while the Lady Trojans also finished third with 11 points. … The Trojan football team stepped away from their winning ways Friday night as they dropped a 14-2 contest to Chapman High School. The Trojans will look to get back to the winning side of things this Friday night when they play at Remington.

Russell

The Lady Bronco tennis team competed in a quadrangular at Phillipsburg on Tuesday, where they finished in fourth place with 3 points. Norton, Phillipsburg and Trego Community were the other teams in the quad. The Lady Broncos are now off until Sept. 17 when they will compete at Sterling. … The Lady Bronco golfers played at Salina Central on Tuesday where they finished in third place with a team score of 186. … The Lady Bronco volleyball team played host to Southeast of Saline on Tuesday but got swept. Southeast won the opener 25-14, 25-21 and completed the sweep with scores of 27-25, 25-20 in the nightcap. … The Russell cross country teams ran at Quinter on Thursday but neither squad had enough runners to earn a team score. … The Bronco football team suffered its second loss of the season Friday night when they fell 36-14 in an NCAA contest against Ellsworth. The Broncos will look for their first win of the season this Friday night when they stay in NCAA action and play at Beloit.

Beloit

The Lady Trojan volleyball team played host to a quadrangular on Tuesday where they earned a 1-2 record as they defeated Red Cloud, Neb. 25-14, 25-20 but fell to Republic County 25-20, 25-16 and also lost to Smith Center 25-10, 25-22. The Beloit volleyball team also competed in the Southeast of Saline tournament on Saturday where they went 0-3 on the day. … The Beloit cross country teams ran at Hesston on Thursday where the Beloit boys finished in 15th place in the lower division race with 127 points while the Beloit girls finished in 17th place with 59 points. … The Trojan football team picked up its second win of the young season and remained undefeated Friday night with a 54-0 win over Smith Center. The Trojans will play their first NCAA game of the season this Friday night when they play host to Russell.

Ellsworth

The Ellsworth cross country teams ran at Hesston on Thursday but neither Ellsworth squad had enough runners to compile team points in the meet. … The Lady Bearcat volleyball team played host to an Invitational tournament on Saturday which they caputred the team title after earning five victories in the tournament. … The Ellsworth football team picked up its first win of the young season Friday night when it knocked off Russell 36-14. The Bearcats will stay at home and in NCAA action this Friday night when they play host to Republic County.

Republic County

The Republic County volleyball team won a quadrangular at Beloit on Tuesday to remain undefeated on the season at 5-0. The Lady Buffs beat Beloit 25-20, 25-16, Red Cloud, Neb. 25-17, 25-20 and Smith Center 25-19, 25-22. The Lady Buffs return to the court this Tuesday when they play host to Southeast of Saline. … The Republic County volleyball team competed in the Ellsworth Tournament on Saturday where they went 2-3 and are now 5-5 on the season. … The Buffaloe football team suffered its second loss of the season Friday night when they fell 77-6 to Salina Sacred Heart. The Buffs will look for their first win of the season this Friday night when they play at Ellsworth.
