SALINA, Kan.—
The North Central Activities Association had three teams preparing for the Class 3A state football playoffs, a guarantee of having at least one team advance to the second round of the playoffs and one individual state champion so far in the 2012-2013 school year.Ellsworth, Beloit and Sacred Heart High Schools all earned playoof berths in football this past Thursday night and Beloit will play host to Ellsworth in the opening, insuring the NCAA of at least one victory and one team advancing to the second round of the playoffs.
Sacred Heart will play host to Norton in the other football playoff game on Tuesday night.
Sacred Heart
The Sacred Heart cross country teams were represented at the Class 3A meet in Lawrence at Rim Rock Farms on Saturday as the Lady Knights had their whole squad there and placed third with 121 points while the Knight boys only had two runners there but did earn the individual champion as Corry Donley repeated as the 3A state champion in a time of 16:03.50 while teammate Chris Sandquist finished in 11th place with a time of 17:18.50. … The Kngiht football team wrapped up its regular season and a district championship Thursday night when it defeated Lyons 39-6. The Knights will now play host to Norton in the opening round of the playoffs on Tuesday night.
Minneapolis
Minneapolis had one state cross country qualifier in 2012 and Anna Trahan represented her school well by placing in the top 15 individually and earning a state medal. Trahan ran the Rim Rock Farms course in Lawrence in a time of 16:24.30 for 13th place individually. … The Lions football team saw its 2012 season come to an end on Thursday night when it fell 64-13 to Beloit. The Lions ended their season with a 3-6 overall record and 2-3 record in NCAA play.
Southeast of Saline
Southeast of Saline High School was busy over the weekend as the school had both its cross country teams and its volleyball team in state competition. The Trojan boys and girls placed sixth in the 3A state cross country meet at Lawrence’s Rim Rock Farms with the Trojan boys finishing sixth with 139 points and the Lady Trojans were sixth with 146 points. … The Lady Trojan volleyball team finished fourth in the 3A state volleyball tournament as they went 2-1 in pool play on Friday, beating Hoisington 25-15, 25-13 and Marysville 20-25, 25-20, 25-19 but falling to Garden Plain, 25-23, 25-18. Then in the semis Southeast of Saline lost 25-12, 22-25, 25-16 to Hillsboro and lost to Silver Lake 25-12, 25-19 in the consolation final to finish in fourth place. … The Trojan football team saw its 2012 season come to an end on Thursday evening when it topped Ellsworth 28-7, but fell short of earning a playoff berth. The Trojans saw their season end with a 4-5 overall record and 3-3 mark in NCAA play;
Russell
The Bronco football team saw its 2012 season come to an end on Thursday evening when they lost 55-0 to Scott City. The Broncos saw their season end with a 1-8 overall record and 1-5 record in NCAA play.
Beloit
Beloit had one runner representing it at the Class 3A state cross country meet at Rim Rock Farms in Lawrence and Alex Conn represented his school rather well. Conn finished in second place individually in the boys’ race in a time of 16:15.80, just 0:12 seconds behind the individual champion. … The Trojan football team kept its undefeated season alive on Thursday night when they beat Minneapolis 64-13. The Trojans ended their 2012 NCAA season with 5-0 record and will now play host to NCAA foe Ellsworth in the opening round of the Class 3A playoffs on Tuesday night.
Ellsworth
The Bearcat football team saw its regular season end Thursday night with a 28-7 loss to Southeast of Saline High School. But when the point system played out in their district, the Bearcats are the district runner-up and earned a rematch with NCAA football champion Beloit on Tuesday evening. The Bearcats ended their 2012 NCAA schedule with a 3-3 record.
Republic County
Both Republic County High School cross country teams ran in the 2A state meet on Saturday in Wamego. The Lady Buffs finished in 11th place with 231 points, led by freshman Lanessa Aurand, who was 18th in 16:25.10 while the Buff boys were led by Trenton Kuhlman, who finished in eighth place in a time of 17:15.70. … The Republic County football team saw its 2012 season come to an end without a victory. The Buffs’ final shot at a win came Thursday night when they fell 45-14 to Smith Center High School. The Buffs ended their 2012 season with an 0-9 overall record and 0-4 mark in NCAA action.
