The 2012 North Central Activities Association football standings had its biggest week yet as things are starting to look a small bit more clear this season after this past Friday night.

The biggest blow landed Friday night came when Beloit handed Ellsworth its second loss of the year and first NCAA loss. That win by the Trojans also kept them undefeated on the season and with a half-game lead over four teams, which are tied for second, third, fourth and fifth in the NCAA with identical 2-1 records. Beloit is sitting at 5-0 overall on the season and 3-0 in NCAA play.

The other team that  feel from the NCAA undefeated ranks was Minneapolis, which lost a 30-16 contest to Sacred Heart.

Things should also get more clear this coming Friday night when, once again, six of the seven NCAA teams will be locked in conference contests. Republic County was the only NCAA team to step outside of conference last week and the Buffs will do the same thing again this Friday night.

Sacred Heart

The Sacred Heart volleyball team played host to Russell Tuesday evening in an NCAA doubleheader and swept the Lady Broncos, winning the opener 25-11, 25-14 and completing the sweep with a 25-12, 25-13 victory. The Lady Knights played host to a triangular on Thursday where they went 1-1, falling to Salina Central 25-18, 27-25, but defeating Chapman 25-18, 25-10. … The Saced Heart cross country teams ran at Beloit on Thursday where they both won team titles. The Lady Knights took first with 37 points while the Knight boys won the meet with 62 points. … The Knights got back on track on the gridiron this past Friday night when they moved to 3-1 on the season with a 30-16 win over Minneapolis. Sacred Heart will remain with NCAA play this Friday night when they play at Russell.

Minneapolis

The Lady Lion golf team hosted a tournament on Monday where they finished in fourth place with a team score of 219 strokes. The squad also played at Clay Center on Thursday where they finished in sixth place with a team score of 245. … The Lady Lion volleyball team traveled to Ellsworth Tuesday night for an NCAA doubleheader but lost both matches, falling 25-20, 25-17 in the opener and 25-23, 25-16 in the second match. … The Minneapolis cross country teams ran at Beloit on Thursday where the Lion boys finished in seventh place with 142 points while the Lady Lions did not have enough runners to earn a valid team score. … The Lions are one of the four teams knotted at second, third, fourth and fifth in the NCAA football standings after a 30-16 loss to Sacred Heart for their first NCAA loss of the season. The Lions will look to get back on the winning side of things this Friday night when they play at Ellsworth.

Southeast of Saline

The Southeast of Saline cross country teams ran at Lyons on Tuesday where the Trojan boys won the meet with 30 points while the Lady Trojans also won the team title with 34 points. … The Lady Trojan volleyball team traveled to Beloit on Tuesday for an NCAA doubleheader and earned a sweep as they won the opener 25-21, 18-25, 25-16 and completed the sweep with a 25-13, 25-21 victory. … The Trojan football team picked up a 49-22 win over Russell Friday night and will look to keep the winning alive this Friday night when they play host to Beloit.

Russell

The Lady Bronco golf team traveled to Hoisington on Monday and came home with the team championship after carding a team score of 197. … The Lady Bronco tennis team competed at Colby on Tuesday and placed fourth with 13 points. … The Russell cross country teams ran at Lyons on Tuesday, but neither boys or girls squads had enough runners to earn valid team scores. … The Lady Bronco volleyball team played an NCAA doubleheader at Sacred Heart on Tuesday and got swept, falling 25-11, 25-14 in the opener and 25-12, 25-13 in the nightcap. … The Broncos dropped their fourth game of the season Friday night when they lost to Southeast of Saline 49-22. The Broncos will look for their second win of the season this Friday night when they play host to Sacred Heart.

Beloit

The Lady Trojan volleyball team played host to Southeast of Saline for an NCAA doubleheader on Tuesday but got swept in both matches, falling 25-21, 18-25, 25-16 in the opening match and 25-13, 25-21 in the nightcap. … The Lady Trojan tennis team played in a quad at Concordia on Tuesday where it finished in third place with 8 points. … Beloit’s cross country program hosted a meet on Thursday, but neither Beloit squad was able to earn team points. … The Trojan football team now stands as the only NCAA team that is not only undefeated overall but also the only NCAA team that has not lost an NCAA game this fall. The Trojans kept the winning alive Friday night with a 68-10 win over Ellsworth and will look to make their winning streak reach six games this Friday night when they play at Southeast of Saline.

Ellsworth

The Lady Bearcat volleyball team played host to NCAA rival Minneapolis Tuesday and earned a sweep as Ellsworth won the opener 25-20, 25-17 and completed the sweep with a 25-23, 25-16 victory. The sweep moves Ellsworth’s overall record to 15-3 and keeps them undefeated (6-0) in NCAA play. … The Lady Beacat tennis team was split into two squads on Tuesday for the Ellsworth Quad and finished in second and fith place. The Ellsworth Black team finished in 2nd place with 26 points while the Ellsworth Red team finished in fifth place with 8 points. … The Ellsworth cross country teams ran at Lyons on Tuesday but neither squad had enough runners to earn valid team scores. … The Bearcat football team suffered its first NCAA loss of the season Friday night when they lost to Beloit 68-10. The Bearcats will look to get back on the winning side of things this Friday night when they play host to Minneapolis.

Republic County

The Republic County cross country teams ran at Beloit on Thursday where the boys squad finished in second place with 65 points and the Lady Buffs were third with 85 points. … The Republic County played outside of the NCAA conference this past Firday night, but the game was mandated by the Kansas State High School Activites Association as it was the first district game for the Buffs. Republic County, however, lost that game 42-6 to Bennington. The Buffs will stay with district play this Friday night when they play host to Washington County.
