SALINA, Kan.—The first big blow in 2012 in North Central Activities Association football was landed Friday night by the Beloit Trojans.
It was a 50-point blow against the Sacred Heart Knights.
That leaves Beloit in a three-way tie atop the NCAA football standings as they stand with Minneapolis and Ellsworth atop the standings with identical 2-0 NCAA records. Minneapolis and Ellsworth, however, have suffered one loss each this season in non-conference play.
Ellsworth and Beloit are scheduled to lock horns this Friday night in Beloit. Minneapolis is scheduled to play host to Sacred Heart.
Sacred Heart joins Southeast of Saline at 1-1 in NCAA play, tied for third in fourth in the standings while Republic County is sitting in seventh place with all four of its losses being NCAA contests.
The Lady Knight volleyball team played a doubleheader at Beloit on Tuesday evening where they earned a sweep, winning the opener 22-25, 25-17, 25-12 and completing the sweep with a 25-11, 25-13 victory. The Lady Knights then traveled to Herington on Saturday where they posted a 4-1 record and won the championship. In pool play Sacred Heart beat White City 25-16, 25-8 and Centre 21-25, 25-23, 25-12 but lost to Council Grove 17-25, 25-21, 25-21, in the semifinals the Lady Knights beat Herington 25-12, 25-17 and then in the championship Sacred Heart scored a 25-15, 25-14 win over Council Grove… The Knight football team suffered its first loss of the season Friday night when they were beat 70-20 by Beloit. The Knights will look to get back on the winning side of things this Friday night when they play at Minneapolis, which is also still undefeated in NCAA play, but 3-1 overall this season.
The Lady Lion golf team played in the Russell Invitational on Monday where they finished in third place with a team score of 221. … The Minneapolis cross country teams ran at the Southeast of Saline Invitational on Tuesday where the boys finished in ninth place with 233 points while the girls did not have enough runners to earn a team score. … The Lady Lion volleyball team played at Southeast of Saline Tuesday night where they split the two matches, Minneapolis dropped the first match 25-21, 25-14 but came back in the second match and won 25-22, 25-22 to earn the split. … The Lions football team picked up its third win of the season Friday night when they handed Southeast of Saline a 27-7 defeat. The win locks the Lions into a 3-way tie atop the NCAA standings with Beloit and Ellsworth, who will meet up this Friday night in Beloit. Minneapolis, meanwhile, will stay in NCAA action this Friday night when it plays host to Sacred Heart.

The Southeast of Saline cross country teams hosted an invitational on Tuesday where both teams finished in second place as the Trojan boys finished second with 63 points and the Lady Trojans finished second with 51 points. … The Lady Trojan volleyball team played host to Minneapolis Tuesday night and picked up a split, winning the opening match 25-21, 25-14 but falling in the second match 25-22, 25-22. The Lady Trojans then played in the Lyons Invitational on Saturday where they finished in second place after posting a 3-2 record. The Lady Trojans beat Little River (25-17, 25-13) and Otis-Bison (25-12, 25-10) in pool play and lost to Pratt (22-25, 25-22, 25-20) also in pool play, beat Ellinwood (25-17, 25-21) in cross bracketing but lost 25-11, 25-14 to Pratt in the champion ship match. … The Trojan football team suffered its first NCAA loss of the season Friday night, and second overall, when they were defeated 27-7 by Minneapolis. The Trojans will look to get back on the winning side of things this Friday night when it plays at Russell.
The Lady Bronco golf team played host to a tournament on Monday where they finished in second place with a team score of 210. … The Lady Bronco tennis team competed at the Sterling Invitational on Monday where they finished in fourth place as a team with 3 points. … The Russell cross country teams ran at the Southeast of Saline Invitational on Tuesday, but neither squad had enough runners to earn team points. … The Lady Bronco volleyball team played a doubleheader at Republic County Tuesday evening, but got swept, losing the opening match 25-20, 25-10 and also fell 25-15, 25-22 in the closing match. The Lady Broncos then placed sixth in the Lyons Invitsational on Saturday with two wins, two losses and one spllit. In the tournament Russell lost to Ellinwood 25-17, 25-19 and Lyons 25-20, 27-25 (in the 5th-6th place match), beat Lyons 25-19, 23-25, 25-20 and Ellsworth 25-18, 25-20 and split with Otis-Bison 28-26, 16-25 (cross bracketing match) … The Bronco football team picked up its first win of the season Friday night when it handed Republic County a 42-14 defeat. The Broncos will look to keep the winning alive this Friday night when they play host to Southeast of Saline.
The Lady Trojan volleyball team played host to Sacred Heart Tuesday evening and got swept, falling 22-25, 25-17, 25-12 in the first match and then 25-11, 25-13 in the second match. … The Beloit cross country teams ran at Republic County on Thursday where the Trojan boys finished in seventh place with 156 points but the Lady Trojans did not have enough runners to earn a valid team score. … The Beloit Lady Trojan tennis team played at Concordia on Thursday where they finished in fifth with six points. … The Trojan football team won an undefeated shootout Friday night against Sacred Heart. The Trojans, who have outscored their opponents 258-28 this season, scored a 70-20 win over the Knights to remain undefeated (4-0) on the season. The Trojans will look to remain undefeated this Friday night when they play host to Ellsworth.
The Lady Bearcat tennis team played at Hesston on Tueday where they finished in fourth place with 14 points. … The Ellsworth cross country teams ran at the Southeast of Saline Invitational on Tuesday, but neither squad had enough runners to earn a team score. … The Lady Bearcat volleyball team placed third on Saturday at Lyons tournament after posting a 3-2 record, the Lady Bearcats opened pool play with a 25-21, 25-22 win over Lyons, then lost to Ellinwood 25-15, 18-25, 25-22 before closing out pool play with a 25-16, 25-20 win over Russell. In bracketed play the Lady Bearcats lost a 25-13, 25-18 match to Pratt but then bounced back to defeat Ellinwood 25-21, 24-26, 25-23 to finish in third place. … The Bearcat football team stepped outside of NCAA action this past Friday night, but picked up its third win of the year with a 50-35 victory over Hays Thomas More Prep-Marian. The Bearcats, who are in a 3-way tie atop the NCAA football standings with Beloit and Minneapolis at 2-0, will get back into NCAA play
this Friday night when they play at Beloit.
The Lady Buffs volleyball team played host to Russell Tuesday night and came away with a sweep as Republic County won the opening match 25-20, 25-10 and completed the sweep with a 25-15, 25-22 victory. … The Republic County cross country teams hosted a meet on Thursday where the Buff boys finished in third place with 71 points and the Lady Buffs finished second with 35 points. … The Buff football team suffered its fourth loss of the season, all four being NCAA defeats, Friday night when they lost to Russell 42-14. The Buffs will look for that first win this Friday night when they play host to Bennington.
