The Mid Continent League is now down to just one undefeated football team in 2012, that being the Phillipsburg Panthers.

The undefeated glory was taken away from Norton and Trego this past Friday night, but on the optimistic side, there is only one MCL team that is still searching for a win and no MCL teams have endured three losses this season.

Ellis and Smith Center picked up their first wins of the season this past Friday leaving only Hill City still searching for that first win. The Ringnecks, however, will have an extra week under their belts when they look for that first win this Friday night at Satanta because Hill City had an open week on Friday.

Norton

The Norton cross country teams ran at Hays on Thursday where the Blue Jay boys finished 2nd in the lower classification race with 64 points and the Lady Jays won the lower classification team title with 42 points. … The Norton football team suffered its loss of the season Friday night when they dropped a 22-14 contest against Phillipsburg. The Blue Jays will look to get back on the winning side of things this Friday night when they play at Oberlin.

Smith Center

The Lady Red volleyball team traveled to Ellis Tuesday evening for a triangular where they won both matches, defeating Ellis 25-8, 25-10 and beating Victoria 25-18 25-11. … The Smith Center cross country teams hosted a meet on Thursday but neither of their teams had enough runners to earn qualifying team scores. … The Red Men football team picked up its first win of the season Friday night when they defeated Oberlin 20-14 in overtime. The Red Men will look to keep the winning going this Friday night when they play host to Phillipsburg.

Osborne

The Lady Bulldog volleyball team traveled to WaKeeney Tuesday evening for an MCL triangular and won both matches as the Lady Bulldogs defeated Trego 25-11, 22-25, 25-12 and then knocked off Plainville 23-25, 25-17, 25-22. … The Osborne cross country teams ran at the Smith Center Invitational on Thursday but neither squad had enough runners to earn qualifying team scores. … The Bulldog football team picked up a 58-24 win over Lakeside on Friday, putting them in a tie with Trego at 2-1 (overall) in the MCL 8-man standings, but Trego still has the lead as the Eagles are still 2-0 in MCL play while Osborne is 1-1 in MCL play. The Bulldogs will play host to Wakefield this Friday night.

Stockton

The Lady Tiger volleyball team played host to Hoxie and Frankfort, Neb. Tuesday evening in a triangular and split its two matches, defeating Frankfort 26-10, 2504 but falling to Hoxie 26-24, 25-23. … The Stockton cross country teams ran at Hays on Thursday where the Tiger boys finished in seventh place in the lower classification section with 145 points while the Lady Tigers did not have enough runners to earn a qualifying team score. … The Tiger football team fell 32-12 to Tipton-Catholic on Friday night and will look to get back on the winning ways this Friday when they play host to Natoma.

Trego Community

The Lady Eagles volleyball team played host to an MCL triangular Tuesday night where they split their two matches as they opened with a 25-11, 22-25, 25-12 loss to Osborne, but bounced back to defeat Plainville 25-21, 25-16. … The War Eagles suffered their first loss of the football season this past Friday when they dropped a 34-16 contest against Jetmore. The Eagles are still in the MCL 8-man lead, however, as they are the only MCL 8-man team that is still undefeated in MCL action and will look to get back on the winning side of things this Friday night when they play at Ingalls.

Ellis

The Ellis volleyball team played host to a triangular Tuesday evening where they split their two matches. The Lady Railers beat Victoria 25-23, 25-20 but fell to Smith Center 25-8, 25-10. The Ellis spikers also played host to Hays TMP on Thursday but lost in three sets, falling 25-16, 25-18, 25-22… The Railroader football team picked up its first win of the season this past Friday night when they handed Ellinwood a 40-18 defeat. This week Ellis will look to keep the winning stretch alive when it plays host to Larned.

Hill City

The Hill City football team, which is currently 0-2 on the young season, had an off week this past week and will look for their first win of the season this Friday night when the Ringneks travel to take on the Indians of Satanta High School.

Phillipsburg

The Phillipsburg cross country teams ran at Smith Center on Thursday the Panther boys finished in 2nd place with 41 points but the Lady Panthers did not have enough runners to earn a qualifying team score. … The Panther football team picked up its second win of the young season this past Friday night when they defeated Oakley 54-6. The Panthers will look to keep the winning alive this Friday night when they play at Smith Center.

Plainville

The Lady Cardinal volleyball team traveled to WaKeeney for an MCL triangular Tuesday evening where they dropped both matches, falling 23-25, 25-17, 25-22 to Osborne and 25-21, 25-16 to Trego. … The Phillipsburg cross country teams ran at Hays on Thursday where the Cardinal boys finished in seventh place in the lower classification race with 146 points while the Plainville girls were sixth with 129 points. … The Cardinal football team got back on the winning note this past Friday night when they handed Norton its first loss of the season, 22-14, and will look to keep the winning alive this Friday night when they play host to LaCrosse.
