SALINA, Kan.—
After just two weeks of the 2012 Mid Continent League football season there are only two MCL teams still undefeated on the season.Luckily for MCL teams, those two squads, Norton and Trego, are in different divisions. Norton is 2-0 in the 11-man division after defeating Goodland 22-7 this past Friday night and Trego is 2-0 in the 8-man division after a 56-8 win over Stockton this past Friday night.
Norton
The Lady Jay tennis team got back on the courts in Phillipsburg on Tuesday where they scored 18 points to finish in second place in a quadrangular with Phillipsburg, Russell and Trego. The Lady Jays are off until they return to Phillipsburg this Tuesday to play in another quadrangular with Phillipsburg, Concordia and Scott City. … The Norton cross country teams ran at Norton on Saturday where the Blue Jay boys finished in fourth place with 152 points while the Norton girls won the lower classification team title with 57 points. … The Blue Jay football team picked up its second win of the season Friday night with a 22-7 win over Goodland and will look to remain undefeated this week when they play host to Plainville in an MCL contest.
Smith Center
The Lady Red volleyball team played a quadrangular at Beloit on Tuesday where they went 2-1 on the day, defeated Red Cloud, Neb. 25-12, 25-17 and Beloit 25-10, 25-22 but falling to Republic County 25-19, 25-22. The Lady Red return to the court next Tuesday when they play a triangular at Ellis with Victoria. … The Redmen football team is still searching for its first win of the season after falling to 0-2 on the young season Friday night with a 54-0 loss against Beloit. Smith Center will look for that first win this Friday night when it plays host to Oberlin.
Osborne
The Osborne football team picked up its first win of the season Friday night when the Bulldogs picked up an MCL victory, 54-36, over Hill City. The Bulldogs will look to keep the winning alive this Friday night when they play at Lakeside.
Stockton
The Tiger football team suffered its first loss of the young season Friday night when they fell 56-8 to Trego and will look to get back on the winning side of things this Friday night when they play at Tipton Catholic High School.
Trego Community
The Lady Eagle tennis team got back into action on Tuesday when they competed in a quadrangular at Phillipsburg where they finished in third place with 13 points. Norton, Phillipsburg and Russell were the other teams in the quad.. …The Trego cross country teams ran at Wamego on Saturday but neither squad had enough runners to earn a team score. … The Eagle football team kept its undefeated season alive in football Friday night with a 56-8 win over Stockton and will look to keep the winning alive this Friday night when it plays host to Jetmore High School.
Ellis
The Ellis cross country teams ran at Quinter on Thursday, but neither squad had enough runners to earn a team score. … The Railroader football team suffered its second loss of the young 2012 season Friday night when it fell 56-0 to Plainville. The Railers will get back on the field this Friday night when they play at Ellinwood.
Hill City
The Hill City cross country teams ran at Quinter on Thursday where the Hill City boys earned 33 points and finished in second place while the Hill City girls earned 36 points and finished in third place. … The Ringneck football team suffered its second loss of the season Friday night when they fell 54-36 to Osborne and will take a week away from the field as they have a bye week this week and will return to the field in two weeks when they play at Satanta.
Phillipburg
The Lady Panther tennis tournament played host to a quadrangular with Norton, Russell and Trego on Tuesday where they scored 25 points to earn the championship. The Lady Panthers will return to the courts this Tuesday when they play host to Concordia, Norton and Scott City in another triangular. … The Lady Panther volleyball team played host to a quadrangular Tuesday night where they went 2-1, defeating Norton 25-21, 25-18 and Osborne 25-18, 25-20 but falling to Stockton 25-20, 25-17 the Lady Panthers also played at Minden, Neb. … The Panther football team suffered its first loss of the season Friday night when they dropped a 24-0 contest to Oberlin. The Panthers will look to get back to the winning side of things this Friday night when they play host to Oakley.
Plainville
The Cardinal football team picked up its first win of the young season Friday night with a 56-0 MCL shut out over Ellis. The Cardinals will look to keep the winning alive this Friday night when they play at Norton.
