Shawnee Mission East won last year’s state tournament with 50 points, 23 ahead of runner-up Blue Valley North. East now enters the season as the preseason No. 1 and BV North sits at No. 2. BV Northwest finished third last year and its ranked No. 3 in 6A.

The Salina Central boys look to get back to the top as state champions as they enter the season at No. 1. St. Thomas Aquinas won the title last year and is now the second-ranked team in 5A. Lansing took second at the state tournament, but is not ranked entering the season.

No surprises in 4A, as Wichita Collegiate enters the season as the No. 1 team in the class. McPherson finished second at the state tournament and is right back at the No. 2 ranking to start the year.

Under the direction of Simon Norman, Wichita Independent looks to reclaim it spot atop the ranks at the state tournament. But for now, it’s going to have to settle for the No. 1 ranking in the class. KC Christian finished tied with the Panthers for third at last season’s state tournament.
