A proposal to reclassify Class 4A, 3A and 2-1A football failed to receive the votes necessary to make the change. The amendment would have reduced the number of teams in Class 4A from 64 to 48.

There would have then been a trickle down effect with the next 64 largest schools being assigned to 3A, and the remaining 57 schools assigned to 2-1A.

Had it passed, this proposal would have only affected football.

The overall vote yielded 189 ‘no’ responses compared to 101 schools voting in favor of the change. Class 4A was the only group to approve the measure with a 39-25 vote.

Per the KSHSAA, the proposal failed to receive the 146 votes needed from the 290 schools voting.  Additionally, the proposal failed to pass in a majority of the four classifications of schools that would be impacted.  KSHSAA Bylaw Article XII, Section 4 requires a majority vote in both respects.  As a result, the proposal fails and no longer remains in consideration by the KSHSAA.

Voting Results were as follows:
Class 4A
Yes = 39       No = 25

Class 3A
Yes = 17       No = 47

Class 2A

Class 1A
