The Berean Academy basketball squads continued to win last week. The Warrior girls remain unbeaten, and the Berean boys have now won 17 straight.

Inman
The Lady Teutons are picking up steam heading into the post-season. The girls beat Marion 44-41 on Tuesday, then downed Little River 41-27 on Friday to improve to 9-10 on the year. Friday, Inman trailed 11-7 after one quarter, but turned that around for a 19-18 halftime lead. After taking a 28-25 advantage into the fourth quarter, the girls took off for a 14-point win. Sophomore Kaitlynn Goalden scored all of her 12 points in the second half.

“This year, she’s been knocking down some threes in the second half of the season,” said Lady Teuton coach Jeff Friesen. “She’s real good at driving the ball. The fact that she can make a three now, people have to come out and play her.”

Abby Ropp added nine points and led Inman with five rebounds. Staci Schroeder finished with seven points, and Madi Tuxhorn five points.

The Inman boys fell to Marion 54-50, before holding off Little River 36-33 on Friday. The Teutons led 12-4 early in that game. Little River battled back to tie things at 26 heading into the final quarter. Sophomore Justin Friesen’s three put the Teutons back on top, and Inman coach Brett Froese decided to hold the ball against the Redskin 3-2 zone.

“We just didn’t have very good movement,” Froese said. “That 3-2 zone, game tied, I didn’t really like it too much. I figure if it was tied or with the lead, I’m going to try and make them do something a little bit different. It could have backfired on me, but it ended up working out.”

The move used time but neither team capitalized. Josh Miller’s three gave the Teutons a 36-33 lead with 1:08 to play. The junior missed two free throws down the stretch, but Little River’s two three-point tries at the buzzer missed.

Miller finished 4-of-6 from behind the arc to lead all scorers with 14 points. Friesen and Jonathan Landeros each added seven points.

Whitney Gordon scored 19 points in the loss.

Remington
The Lady Broncos had a chance to step into an HOA title. That would have meant handing No. 4 Berean Academy its first loss. Instead, the Warriors outscored Remington 37-21 in the second half for a 55-40 win. The Broncos did beat Canton-Galva earlier in the week, and are now 16-3 overall, 7-2 in league play. Despite a slow start Tuesday, Remington led 20-9 at the half, then outscored the Eagles 10-3 in the final quarter to secure the win.
