The winter basketball season is officially upon us and that means blowouts and overtime thrillers. Hays barely beat Newton tonight and North's Conner Frankamp took another step toward a Wichita city league record. Catch up on all the action from around the state below.

The story of the night was, as expected, North’s Conner Frankamp lighting up a scoreboard yet again. This time he dropped 46 points on Northwest in a 76-43 win over the Grizzlies. He himself outscored Northwest. Kapaun’s Braden Hullings scored 27 points in a 72-66 win over East. The Crusaders got off on the right foot in its quest to defend its state championship.
Southeast was able to down South 76-64 to start the season. Bishop Carroll beat Heights 53-45 for the first time since pre-Perry Ellis to open Heights’ new gym.
AVCTL
Derby jumped out to a 22-11 first quarter lead and didn’t look back in a 78-67 win over Manhattan. Andover Central dismantled Campus 68-48. Maize fell to Emporia 67-55. Hays took down Newton in the Hays City Shoot-out 54-53 in overtime.
Goddard Eisenhower ran past Salina South 79-61 and McPherson finished the Salina sweep with a 66-46 knockaround. Dodge City traveled a long way to beat Goddard 47-34. Mulvane was able to beat Augusta 62-53. Winfield nearly doubled up on Ark City with an 81-46 whitewash of the Bulldogs.

Haven dominated Pretty Prairie 64-26. Halstead fell to Remington 59-44 behind a 28-point performance from Remington’s Tanner. The Cowboys of Abilene beat Smoky Valley 66-35 and Pratt lost to Garden City 46-27.
CPL
Wichita Trinity toppled Garden Plain 58-47. Conway Springs nearly doubled up on Medicine Lodge 50-31.
Others
St. John-Hudson neared the century mark in its 88-19 win over Pratt Skyline. Spencer Nusser led the all scorers with 18 points as Ethan Long, Dean Wade and Zuriel Reyes each contributed 13. Berean Academy slid past Sterling 58-55 to open the season. Much the same goes for Kiowa County, as it barely beat LaCrosse 37-35. And again in Sedgwick, where the Cardinals beat Olpe 35-33.
Hutch Central Christian poured it on Fairfield in a 78-55 bludgeoning. Meade beat Elkhart 61-25 and Marion took down Southeast of Salina 61-47. Wamego beat Holton 47-32. Concordia beat Beloit 54-41. The Otis-Bison Cougars are looking to get back to state form in a 46-41 win over Wilson. Great Bend pounded Thomas More Prep 53-27 and Riley County beat Colby 57-39, both in the Hays City Shoot-out.
