After 30 years coaching basketball, Ron Allen has announced his retirement from teaching and coaching.

Allen has been the head coach at Wichita East High School for the past 19 years. Before that, Allen was the head coach at West for two years, and assistant coach for seven. He was also an assistant at North High School for two years before that.

It was a legendary coaching career filled with too many highlights to name just one.

"It's been a great, fun ride. I'd have to sit down and really think about an exact best moment."

For Allen, it was all about family, both with his immediate family, and the East High family.

"I won two state championships, and both with my sons. That was a highlight."

East won state titles in 2002 and 2005 under the direction of Allen.

And while retirement may be in his future, it's easy to understand Allen still has a passion for coaching; and for East High.

"I told the kids to stay intact, stay focused on how we do things."

And even though Allen will no longer patrol the sidelines at East high, Allen will not be going far.

"Once an Ace, always an Ace."
