After 33 years in the realm of coaching basketball, Don Racine has announced his retirement. The girls head basketball coach for Bishop Carroll led his teams to five city league titles, an astounding 16 regional championships and claimed the 2004 state championship.

Racine has compiled a league-record 565 wins and an arguably even more impressive 180 losses. He retires with a 75.8 win percentage. He was the Greater Wichita Athletic League basketball coach of the year four different times and was awarded state coach of the year honors once.

“Coach Racine will be greatly missed running the girls basketball program,” Carroll athletic director Larry Dostert said in a press release Wednesday morning.

The Bishop Carroll Lady Golden Eagles lost in its sub-state championship game in 2012 to Andover and missed the state tournament. The team compiled a 15-7 win-loss record in his final year at the helm.

Racine will continue his role at the school as a physical education teacher.
