The Goddard Eisenhower Tigers will begin a new set of traditions as they open up their first football season this fall.
Even though Eisenhower High School opened last August, the school stayed combined with Goddard High School for football, and finished with a record of 2-7.
Charlie Nally, a current member of the Eisenhower faculty will lead the Tigers in what he believes to be an exciting adventure.
“It’s a new beginning,” said Nally. “It’s a fresh start and the kids are excited about it and we are excited about it as a coaching staff. It’s all new. You’re going to establish all the traditions; you’re going to establish any records. Anything that goes on is going to be first. That’s what is really exciting about it.”
The fresh start Nally is alluding to refers to his thirteen years spent at Goddard. Nally was the head football coach for the Lions the last two seasons, and he looks forward to the competitiveness soon to rise within the city of Goddard.
“I think it will be a good rivalry between Eisenhower and Goddard,” said Nally. “I love rivalries, I think they are great for kids and I think they are great for schools.”
The Tigers are conditioning this month in preparation for tryouts which begin August 13th. According to Nally the pros and cons of the newly developing program have already been recognized.
“Our biggest strength this year is the unknown. No one knows anything about us,” said Nally. “No offense or defense has been established, so I think that’s going to be a surprise, but a weakness would probably be that we don’t have the library on all the other people. When we left Goddard, all that information stayed there. We can remember some, but we don’t have the library we did have.”
Goddard Eisenhower will play their first game against Clearwater on August 31 at Goddard High School.
