No. 1 St. John-Hudson continued its tear through 1A Div. I with a 68-44 demolition of 10-13 Burrton. The Tigers jumped out to a 19-7 first quarter lead and didn't trail for the entirety of the game. With a 32-16 lead at halftime, St. John came out for the second half with much enthusiasm and outscored the Chargers 36-28 in second half.
Four players scored in the double figures for St. John, including Dean Wade who led his team with 19 points. Burrton's Harper scored 22 points to lead all players. The No. 1 Tigers will meet No. 5 Centralia (19-5) in the second round.
No. 5 Centralia slips past No. 4 Olpe
Centralia was able to hold on and send Olpe packing with a 59-54 opening-round victory. Olpe finished its season with an 18-5 record as Centralia improved to 19-5. The Panthers will meet top-ranked St. John-Hudson in the second round.
No. 2 South Haven dismisses No. 7 Minneola
South Haven entered the tournament with just two losses and has every intention of keeping it that way. The Cardinals showed Minneola the exit as it won its first-round game 54-48.
Minneola kept up with South Haven in the first half, as it held the Cardinals to just four second-quarter points. South Haven was much more composed in the second half as it was able to outscore Minneola 23-20 in the final quarter. South Haven's Austin Showman led all players with 21 points. South Haven will play No. 6 Stockton in the second round.
No. 6 Stockton upends No. 3 Hoxie
Hoxie threw everything but the kitchen sink at Stockton and it still wasn't enough. Maybe the Indians should have tried the kitchen sink, too. Stockton slipped past the higher-seeded Hoxie 58-42 Thursday in opening-round action.
Stockton was always in control as it outscored Hoxie in every quarter but the third, which saw both teams score nine points. No. 6 Stockton improved to 18-6 and will face No. 2 South Haven in the second round.
