The third Friday of the year brought on new hurdles for the boys basketball teams to overcome. Some were looking to remain undefeated, while others were searching for their first win of 2014.
Next week we enter boys tournament week, so all teams are focused on entering the long week with the fuel of a solid win.
Derby wins its fourth in a row after defeating Salina Central tonight 73-62. Jeremy Dunham led the Panthers with 26 points, while James “Papi” Conley had 18 and Josh Mark had 12.
Salina South picks up its fourth win of the season with a 63-58 win over Hutchinson.
Andover Central has struggled so far in 2014, but tonight the Jaguars picked up a much needed win over Arkansas City 62-32.
The undefeated Eisenhower team has done nothing but impress this season. Headed into the Battle of Goddard tonight, most still anticipated the famous rivalry. The Tigers won by 30 points in a 52-22 win over Goddard. They were led by Tyler Buchanan who had 13 points, while Trevon Evans finished with 9.
Buhler improves to 5-3 with a 56-55 win over Mulvane.
El Dorado has been a force to be reckoned with on the basketball court. The Wildcats played host to an undefeated McPherson team, and eventually fell to the Bulpups 76-41.
Collegiate improves to 5-3 on the season tonight with a 45-32 win over Clearwater.
Wichita Northwest hadn’t won since January 2nd, but tonight the Grizzlies picked up their fourth win of the season with a 37-32 win over Bishop Carroll.
Heights has dominated this season and continued its dominance with a 43-35 win over Kapaun tonight. Tre King led the Falcons with 16 points with 2 three-pointers and was six-for-six from the free throw line. Sports Center’s own Ealy Bell finished with 10.
Wichita East is 9-0 after beating Wichita Southeast 66-50. The Blue Aces were led by Samajae Jones who had 21 points while Zach Jackson and Tyas Martin had 14.
Wichita North beat Wichita West 60-36. Tarius Williams led with 18 points, while Darren Lewis and Gage Loy had 10. Interestingly, four players on the West High team finished with 8 points.
The Bennington Bulldogs are now 6-3 after beating Remington 56-24. The Broncos are now 0-9.
Berean Academy beat Inman 53-31. The Warriors’s were led by David Ladwig who finish with 18 points while Loren Pearce had 15.
Central Plains League
The Douglass basketball program is outstanding this season. The boys won their fourth in a row after beating Belle Plaine tonight 61-39.
Medicine Lodge and Conway Springs duked it out tonight in Conway Springs and the night finished with a close Indians win on the road 49-47.
Wichita Trinity is on a six-game winning streak with the 66-42 win over Cheney. The Cheney Cardinals fall to 6-4 on the season.
Bluestem travelled to Garden Plain tonight in search of its first win of the season, but the Lions were unsuccessful and fell 55-45.
Central Kansas League
Haven beat Lyons 57-50 in double overtime. The Wildcats were led by Isaac Ensz who finished with 23 points, and Jacob Newcomer finished 14.
Hillsboro beat Nickerson 56-41. The Trojans were led by Christian Ratzlaff who had 14 points while Micha Allen had 10. Nickerson was outscored in every quarter.
Kingman improves to 7-3 on the season with a 64-45 win over a struggling Sterling squad.
Pratt has won three in a row after beating Smoky Valley 69-50 tonight. The Vikings are in search of their first win entering the Salina Tournament on Tuesday.
Central Prairie League
Tonight La Crosse beat Otis-Bison for the second time this season. The Leopards improve to 7-2 with the 66-55 win, while the Cougars fall to 6-3.
Dodge City beat Great Bend 60-44.
Hays is 9-0 this season after beating Garden City 47-33. The Buffaloes fall to 5-4.
Campus won back on December 10th over Arkansas City, but hasn’t seen victory since. The Colts lost to Andover tonight 68-50.
Winfield improves to 6-3 on the season after beating Wellington at home 55-36.
Augusta won its fourth in a row tonight with a 70-50 win over Rose Hill. The Red Rockets are now 0-9 on the season.
Andale beat Hutchinson Trinity 60-33. The Indians were led by Lane Macari who finished with 13 points, while Hunter Knoblauch had 12. Andale outscored Hutch Trinity 24-5 in the first quarter.
Moundridge beat Solomon 53-40. The Wildcats were led by Hunter Enyart who had 16 points while Colton Frazer finished with 13.
