The Class 1A-Division 1 fourth and fifth seed game was a battle. Spearville traveled to Deerfield to see who would face Montezuma-South Gray on Thursday, March 1. Despite a huge comeback by Spearville in the third quarter, the Spartans walked away with the win 62-49.

The Lancers did not play their best and the Spartans took advantage of it. Quick penetration of the lanes and a savvy perimeter game kept the Spartans on top. At haltime the Lancers were down 29-13. The deficit did not stop them as they came out after halftime with a vengeance.

Spearville senior Hunter Heiland led the revolt and sophomore Matthew Kerschen hit a three to keep it going. With one minute left in the third quarter the Lancers had battled their way back within six points of the Spartans.

The Lancers' hopes of coming back were quickly put to rest. The Spartans dominated the fourth quarter and sealed the win with a three-point shot by sophomore Alex Mata. The Spartans advance to take on the Rebels after their 62-49 victory.
