There is nothing like playing on your home court. The band is rocking, the cheerleaders screaming and the crowd buzzing. For man teams Kansas, it also means no hours long bus ride. It's something two teams in Western Kansas know very little about.

Today is January 19th, and as of today Thomas More Prep and Plainville have played two, that's right I said two, home games.

The Cards played their first home game, just last Tuesday and their second this Tuesday. Despite the tough schedule to start the year, the boys team is now 12-0, ranked number 4 in Class 3A.

For the Monarchs, it's been a little bit better. The did open the season it Hays, though none of the games for the Hays City Shootout are played at their home gym. Since the opening weekend they have played a home game against Ellinwood in mid-December and then last Friday vs Russell. They too are playing well despite the rough road. The girls are 7-3, ranked 10th in Class 3A. The boys are also 7-3.

And there is some rest for the road weary. Plainville finishes the season with 6 of their final 8 game at home. TMP gets five of their last six.

Those kind of road swings can not be fun. I hiccup in the schedule for sure, and one that both teams are glad will finally be coming to an end. And the teams do see some silver linings in the travels. Neither will play playoff teams at home, so they should be better prepared for March Madness.
