I often get asked when I am out an about, "What brings you all the way out to X-town?" At first I would get confused by that question, I mean most of the time it's only like a 30 or 40 minute drive for me. And then I started to realise, people thought I was coming up from Wichita.

Yes, I work for KWCH and CatchItKansas.com, both of which are located in Wichita. But I live right here in Hays, America, my friend and co-worker Danilynn Welniak lives in Dodge City and my other friend and co-worker Karl Mann lives in Salina.

I never really considered that people didn't know that, but that's the tv geek in me. In these days of instant information and streamline of staffing, I can understand how one might think that everything is done out of the Wichita station. But I actually have an office here in Hays and am dedicated to covering all schools from Wilson to Goodland, Ness City to Norton.

Western Kansas is what we cover, and it is where we live. It, in my opinion, gives us an advantage because we get to see teams and athletes grow on a daily basis. And we also cover sports and schools that otherwise couldn't and wouldn't get covered by someone that lives in the big city.

I write this blog, because I am proud that I live in Hays. I am glad that I have had the chance to cover the schools I cover and meet the student athletes I have met. And I just wanted everyone to know, yes, I live in Hays.
