Trinity Academy boys swimming went to the State Meet this weekend and had four participants place.

There were three individual placers from the team on Saturday. Junior Ben Johnson placed eighth in the 100 backstroke and 14th in the 200 freestyle, junior Cody Buettgenbach got 12tg in the 50 freestyle and freshman Alex King got 11tg in the 500 freestyle.

Trinity also had a relay place in finals. Trinity’s 400 free relay consisting of Buettgenbach, Johnson, sophomore Josiah Kortje and King got 11th place.

In the State Meet there are Prelims on Friday and Finals on Saturday. Being at the State Meet there is lots of pressure, but for Buettgenbach, prelims weren’t that big of a deal.

“[Prelims are] not as scary as Finals,” said Buettgenbach. “The competition isn’t as hard.”

For Buettgenbach’s teammate Johnson there was a lot of pressure going into Finals.

“Before my races I put a lot of pressure on myself,” said Johnson. “Places are a lot of the time split by fractions of a second, so every moment counts.”

The Knights are a young team, having no seniors, and this year’s State Meet was a confidence builder for the team.

“It is intimidating to know that you are swimming against the fastest people in the state,” said Buettgenbach. “But when you finish and it is all over I realized I am one of the fastest in the state.”
