WICHITA, Kan.—
As the end of the season draws nearer with every day, the Wichita East boys Swimming and Diving team continues adding to their multi-season City League streak of perfection. With a first place finish in the Emporia Invitational and an 148-33 win over Wichita Southeast in the last week, the Aces have brought their season record to 9-0. Junior Charlie King is one of several swimmers on the team who has already made state qualifying times and looks forward to the coming GWAL League Championship.
When asked about the team’s weaknesses, King struggled for a moment or so and then acknowledged that he couldn’t come up with any.
The team started the year out strong with wins over Wichita North, Bishop Carroll and South but got stronger as the season progressed.
In their closest match of the first half of the season, the Aces won 74-24 over Bishop Carroll. In the second half, their closest match has been a 131-54 routing of Wichita Northwest.
King claims that a lot of the team’s success comes from their depth and also from their diversity.
“We’ve got a lot of different types of people on our team,” said King. “When we all come together we’re a diverse team and we always do well and get along.”
The Aces next event will be the GWAL League Championships at 7 p.m. on Feb. 9 at Wichita East. The Aces will be looking to win their fourth consecutive GWAL Championship.
