WICHITA, Kan.—
The Wichita East girls golf team experienced a lot of change. Starting the season with an inexperienced squad, the team was able to gain several spots in the City League throughout the season. Members of the varsity team varied throughout the season and many younger, underclassmen found themselves on the varsity squad at different points in the season. This experience will surely help the Lady Aces next season.
“I’m very proud of our team,” Steelsmith said. “We’ve really improved a lot since the first few tournaments.”
As the only senior returning varsity player, Steelsmith served as a leader for the team throughout the season and will be a part of the Varsity squad that competes in regionals to qualify for state. A team qualification for the state championships was one of the goals she had for the team earlier this season.
“I’m looking forward to regionals and trying to qualify for state,” she said. “Making it as a team would be a great way to end my high school experience and I definitely think we can do it.”
The Lady Aces compete at 9 a.m. on Oct. 12 at Sim Park Golf Course in the Class 6A Regional.
