At the student deemed "Thug Night" and homecoming game, the Wichita East boys basketball team put on a show to maintain their third place position in the City League and improve their record to 13-6.

Before the boys game, the Lady Aces beat the Grizzlies 46-37. They were led by junior guard Ceyaira Washington with 18 points. Their final regular season game will be against Wichita Heights at 6 p.m. Feb. 21 at Wichita East.

In between games, senior track runner Anna Marie Ortiz was crowned homecoming queen and the student section began to get excited for the match-up of the night between the Aces and Northwest.

“This was the first game this season I wasn’t able to sit in the front of the student section,” said senior Colin White. “There were so many kids out there to support our team.”

The Blue Aces poured on an aggressive defense early and jumped out to a 33-12 half time lead.

At half time athletic director Kevin Hartley and Wichita Eat inducted several new members to the Wichita East Sports Hall of Fame.

Through the second half the Aces maintained their lead and cruised to the victory.

Jalen Love's 26 points on the night and even scoring from other starters as well as the bench helped the Aces to the 80-62 win over the Grizzlies.

“It was great beating them tonight,” said Johnson. “Especially after they beat us earlier this season.”

The win over the Grizzlies puts the team with a 14-6 record with only one game remaining on the season. The Aces will take on the Heights Falcons for the third time this season at 7 p.m. Feb. 21 at Wichita East.
