The Wichita East bowling teams have already found great success this year. Only a couple of weeks into the season and all of the East high bowling teams including JV have won a match.

Under the direction of sixth-year coach Teresa Hall, the Aces started their season at the Bishop Carroll tournament.

The boys finished in 14th, which is an improvement from last year’s placing and the girls came in a disappointed fourth.

Standout bowlers for the Aces this year include boys sophomore Noah Schneegurt and girls senior Kayla Steelsmith.

Schneegurt, who came into the season with hopes of bowling a 600 series, has already accomplished this goal. He’s impressed with the Aces’ performance so far this season, but still sees potential for a better team.

“We’ve been doing really well,” said Schneegurt. “There’s still a lot of room for improvement but I’m happy with where we are for now.”

Steelsmith, in her last year with the Blue Aces, bowled the high series for the team at a tri-meet with Wichita West and Wichita Kapaun Mt. Carmel. She hopes that the unified team can stay together and make a run for an undefeated season and state championship.

“We all get along really well and that’s a great thing” said Steelsmith. “Hopefully we can be undefeated this season and I can end my senior year with a first place finish at state.”

The Aces’ next competition will be the Great Plains Invitational Tournament which begins at 8 a.m. Jan. 28 at North Rock Lanes.
