Liberal took its turn hosting the Western Athletic Conference double duals on Thursday. Although Garden City is ranked No. 1 in 6A, losing five key wrestlers to injury hindered their team performance. Hays was the top team of the night with 117 points while Great Bend followed closely behind with 104.
Garden City seemed to start out strong. It's first dual against Great Bend ended up going south towards the middle of weight classes. The Panthers managed to pull out the first victory over the Buffaloes 40-29.
On the other mat Liberal struggled from the first step. Hays quickly took control of its first dual defeating the Redskins 60-18.
The third dual pitted Garden City against Great Bend. Although the Buffaloes once again put up a good fight they could not hold on to the lead. The Indians exposed the Buffs weaknesses without their top wrestlers and beat Garden City 57-27.
The final dual of the night was a daggar. Great Bend came out on top early and never looked back. The Panthers defeated the Redskins 64-9.
