The Garden City Lady Buffs hosted their final home volleyball triangular before sub-state play Tuesday night. Although it was senior night for the Lady Buffs, they fell for the third time to Maize South. The Mavericks swept the triangular defeating both Garden City and Goddard Eisenhower in two game matches.

"Sweeping today is a great feeling because during senior year you want to win as many as you can," Senior hitter Jody Larson said. "Throughout there we played really well tonight for having a long drive and we are not really awake. We played really well and I was excited."

The Lady Buffs opened their senior night against Maize South. A quick two games led by the Mavericks gave them the match 25-17 and 25-14.

"Playing them three times we know that it is hard to beat a team three times in a row," Larson said. "You know they could change it up on you and you don't always know what is coming. So to go out there and beat them like we did it was very nice."

South took on Goddard Eisenhower immediately following. Larson was a force to be reckoned with on the front line, accumulating a majority of the Mavericks kills. They defeat the tigers 25-17 and 25-19. The Mavericks swept the triangular with ease and now they look forward to regionals. They will play Salina Central and then Valley Center.

"This means a lot going into sub-state," said Maverick junior hitter Kelsey Sterneker."Valley Center has one win and we have one win so that will definitely be a good game but we can't look past Salina Central because they are a very good team."

The final match of the night pitted the Lady Buffs against the Tigers. Everyone expected a three game match and that is what they got. The teams found themselves tied 14 times throughout the first game but Garden City won 29-27. A strong first game but the Buffs couldn't seal up the next two games and the Tigers won in three.

Garden City hosts their 6A sub-state on Saturday.
