The final round was not even close as the No. 2 seeded photo of Bishop Carroll's Kaelyn Balch coming across the finish line at the State Cross Country meet won in a landslide over the No. 1 seed with more than 90-percent of the vote in the final round.
CatchItKansas.com's Chris Parker took the winning photo back on Oct. 29 at Rim Rock Farms in Lawrence. The photo almost did not even happen.
"I had been taking photos of the finish all day standing behind the camera in the shoot. It just so happened for the finish of the Class 5A race that somebody stepped right in front of me as Kaelyn crossed the line. Kind of in a panic I squatted down and shot from a low angle and hoped for the best. I did not even know for sure if I had gotten the photo until I got back to the station that evening," Parker said of taking the photo.
More than 2,300 votes were cast in the competition. The results of each round can be found below. Thank you to all those who took the time to cast a vote. Come back after the winter sports season and let your voice be heard as to what photo was the best of the winter.
