WICHITA, Kan.—
The state’s longest losing streak is over as the Bluestem Lions dismantled Independent 29-0 to snap a 29-game losing streak. It was the first win for Bluestem since 2007 and the first home win for the Lions since the Clinton Administration. The 29-0 win snapped a streak of home futility that dated back to 1998 when the younger portion of the football team was still in diapers.Bucklin lost to Stafford by a 76-64 margin tonight and now holds the distinction of the State’s longest losing streak at 27.
Carroll kept its rivalry win Kapaun one-sided with its 13th consecutive win in the series. This time the Golden Eagles won 20-13. Wichita West got its first win of the year over North by a 28-13 margin. Northwest got back in the win column with a 35-14 win over Southeast.
Salina Central blew by Newton 43-20. Maize scored two touchdowns on back-to-back plays in the second half against Hutchinson to make it interesting, but the Salthawks rolled 47-27 in the game.
Derby blasted Salina South 42-14. Much of the Derby damage was done through the air as Todd Freeman threw for 223 yards and two touchdowns on just nine completions. Tanner Greiving hauled in two passes for 78 yards and touchdown to lead Derby.
Campus lost to Division II opponent Andover Central by a 27-12 margin.
Goddard put up 21 points for the second week in a row and got a win for its troubles for the second week in a row. The Lions shutout host Andover 21-0. Ark City dropped its second game in a row after winning four to start the season. Wellington dealt the Bulldogs the blow this week with a 22-8 win.
Spring Hill thumped Valley Center 28-6. Gardner-Edgerton dispatched McPherson 41-21 for the Bullpups’ first lost.
Buhler’s Tanner Fisher rushed for 217 yards and five touchdowns as he led the Crusaders to a 57-0 win over Augusta. El Dorado extended its losing streak to 24 games with a 28-20 loss to Winfield.
Rose Hill rolled by Mulvane 38-7 behind 399 team rushing yards. Jonny Pearson went for 201 of those yards for two touchdowns on 16 carries.
Andale and Circle locked horns in a battle of winless teams and Andale came away with its first notch in the win column with a convincing 53-13 drubbing of Circle. Trent Horsch led the way for the Indians with 20 carries for 142 yards and two touchdowns.
Collegiate continues to roll with its fourth win in a row. This time Maize South was the victim with a 44-14 win. Clearwater remains undefeated with a 41-0 win over Council Grove.
Conway Springs handed Trinity Academy its second loss of the season in a 54-14 win. The Cardinals had 567 rushing yards in the game as a team. Jordan Ast went for 207 of those yards on just 11 carries.
Garden Plain also doled out a second loss of the season to its opponent with a 63-0 win over Belle Plaine. The Owls rushed for 410 yards as a team with Dylan Clark leading the way. He went for 124 yards and two touchdowns.
Cheney nipped Medicine Lodge 23-20. Douglass cruised by Chaparral 40-12.
Smoky Valley and Hillsboro played the closest contest in the Central Kansas League as Smoky Valley pulled out a 26-21 win. Halstead thumped Pratt 50-19.
Hesston blanked Haven 55-0 behind 196 yards rushing from Kyle Perry. Perry also had five touchdowns. Ryan Schadler also cleared the 100-yard barrier for the Swathers with 109 yards and two touchdowns on seven carries.
Nickerson also pitched a shutout with a 34-0 win over Lyons. Sterling dropped Kingman 42-14.
Out in the Heart of America, Sedgwick blanked Remington 41-0 on the legs of Dalton Brandt and Trent Stucky. Brandt had 181 yards rushing and Stucky chipped in 148 yards on the ground. Hutchinson Trinity handed Marion another loss with a 21-0 win.
Herington toted a 15-game losing streak into the season, but rattled off five wins to start this year. Moundridge ended that winning streak on Friday with a 59-24 defeat of Herington. Bennington mustered eight points in a 49-8 loss to Sacred Heart. Plainville handled Ell-Saline 32-13.
