Boys Soccer finished up the 2011 season Saturday with third-place and championship games.


Wichita Northwest not only captured a Class 6A Championship, but also snapped a 15-year streak of Kansas City or Topeka schools winning the 6A trophy.  The last Wichita area school win the title was the Grizzlies themselves in 1995.


It had been seven years since a non-Kansas City/Topeka school won the 5A title, but Liberal broke the trend with a 3-1 win over Blue Valley Stilwell on Saturday.


Kansas City Christian snagged the 4-1A State Title with a 2-0 victory over St. James Academy.

The Grizzlies capture the Class 6A Title after David Lucio gets a game-winning penalty kick in the game's final seconds. A red card issued to Olathe South in the goalie box set up the penalty kick. Northwest wins first championship since 1995.

Junior Blues place take home third-place tropy.

Liberal 3, Blue Valley Stilwell 1 (RECAP)
Liberal used a pair of goals from Eduardo Moreno and another from Isai Gutierrez to claim the Class 5A State Title.

**An earlier score reported to CatchItKansas listed Stilwell as the winner. After confirming with the KSHSAA that Liberal had won, the score was changed to reflect the correct winner.

Kapaun Mt. Carmel 1, Topeka Seaman 0 - Penalty Kicks (RECAP)

A marathon third-place match finished with Kapaun taking home third. After four overtimes, and nine penalty kicks, the Crusaders took grabbed the third place trophy.

Hayden scores four first half goals to snag an early lead and a third place victory.

KC Christian captured the Class 4-3-2-1A State Championship with a 2-0 shutout victory over St. James Academy.
