Pratt senior Cheyenne Becker was named a finalist for the High School Heisman in a surprise ceremony at her school.

"To be recognized by my entire school, it feels amazing," said Becker. "I just never dreamed that anything like this would happen."

Becker won the Girls 4A State Cross Country title this year, after finishing third in 2010, second in 2009 & eighth in 2008.

As a finalist, Becker will get an all-expense paid trip to New York City for the Heisman Trophy Weekend on Dec. 9. The national winner will be announced live on ESPN. In addition, Pratt High School will receive a $2,000 donation in Becker's name. If Becker wins the national award, Pratt would receive a $10,000 donation.

"I've never been anywhere further than Indianaplis, so New York, I've never been there before. It'll be exciting," said Becker.

To be nominated as a high school Heisman, the student must be a senior, have a 3.0 GPA or better, and particiate in a school-sponsored sport.

Student-athletes are then judged on academic achievements, athletic accomplishments, community leadership and involvement in extracurricular activities throughout their high school career.

Not only does Becker excel on the cross country course and track, but she also volunteers for numerous organizations around her community including: the Humane Society, Red Cross, National Honors Society, Student Government and Big Brothers/Big Sisters.

Becker was named the Kansas girls winner, along with Austin Webs of La Crosse High School, who won the boys award.

Becker was then selected as a top 12 finalist from the pool of 204 state winners.
