Burrton
At the Class 1A state cross country meet, Trey Lane finished ninth with a time of 18:14.72.
The Chargers ended a 2-7 football season with a 52-6 loss to South Barber.
Central Christian
The top-ranked and defending state champion Cougar volleyball team slumped to a third-place finish at the state tournament. Central Christian lost to Norwich 25-16, 17-25, 22-25 in the semifinals and bounced back to defeated Logan 25-16, 21-25, 25-8 for third.
Football ended a winless season with a 50-0 loss at home to St. Johns Military Academy.
Cunningham
The Wildcats’ Luke Panek medaled with a 16th-place finish at the Class 1A state cross country meet. He ran the course in 18:26.54.
Fairfield
Lacey Buckwalter medaled at the Class 1A state cross country meet with a time of 17:24.27, good enough for a 17th-place finish.
In football the Falcons were no match for Pretty Prairie, as the Bulldogs whipped them 60-6. Fairfield won its first two games of the year, but finished 3-6.
Norwich
At the Class 1A state cross country meet Oct. 29, Alicia Henson ran a 16:13.19 to finish 13th and medal. Gabrielle Garrison was 25th in 18:01.26.
Eagle volleyball finished second at the state tournament. They defeated top-ranked Central Christian 16-25, 25-17, 25-22 in the semifinals, only to lose the championship match 16-25, 25-18, 25-19 to Baileyville.
Turnovers doomed Norwich as it lost the ball nine times, including seven interceptions, in a 44-6 district loss at Caldwell. Jackson Coleman’s 5-yard run late in the fourth quarter was the Eagles’ only score. Norwich had only 43 yards rushing but picked up 188 yards through the air, with Coleman passing for 162 yards. Harrison Magruder caught 13 passes for 159 yards as the Eagles finished 3-6.
