Triskaidekaphobia. That's the fear of the number 13. It's something the Hillsboro girls softball team will likely never suffer from. For the Lady Trojans, 13 will likely be their lucky number, because the state title was won in the 13th inning.

The Lady Trojans strike first in the third inning when Stephanie Sanders singled under the glove of Rock Creek's short stop. Amy Bartel scored for Hillsboro. They would get another run in the forth off the bat of Krista Reimer, the single scored Kennedy Lucero.

Rock Creek would get one run back in the fifth inning when Bailey Elliot singled to center and then they would tie it in the seventh thank's to Jessi Snap. That would sent the game to extra innings.

The game would stay tied at two until the bottom of the 13th. Allison Weber laid down a bunt with a runner on second, Weber was safe at first. When the Lady Mustangs tried to get Sanders at third, the throw got past the third baseman. That allowed Sanders to score.

Hillsboro wins the 3A state softball championship in dramatic fashion, 3-2 in 13 innings.

"I just through I gotta make it. So I jumped up and I ran as fast as I could. I just couldn't wait to be with my team," said Sanders. "We kept telling each other in the dugout, this is the last time we are all going to get to play together, so we gotta keep playing together for longer and longer and longer.

"This is one of those things we kind of done all year, but none of them have been that long," said Trojans head coach Stephanie Sinclair. "They played fabulous, defense pulled up through. I liked it that we could come back with the short game and win the game."

In the third place game, Silver Lake knocked off Chapparal 10-0.
