The beat goes on for Kapaun Mt. Carmel boys golf team.
Riding their championship pedrigree and some good putting, the Crusaders won the City League golf title at Braeburn Golf Course.
Sophomore Sam Stevens won medalist honors with a 1-under 71 over teammate Matthew Gilbaugh and Bishop Carroll's Joey Koester with a pair of 72's. The Golden Eagles took second to KMC, losing by only two shots.
"We are a really young team, I thought the kids did a great job," said head coach Dan Phillips. "The experience coming into this year was a little lighter than in the past but the kids have done a good job of learning on the fly."
Stevens, who carded a 34 on the front nine with a birdie on the seventh hole, lead the whole day for medalist honors Wednesday, leading the Crusaders in only his second year on the team.
"I played aggressive a few times today and gave up a few strokes when I shouldn't have," said Sam Stevens. "But I tried to play relatively smart and kept my whits about me to make a few scrambling pars that helped me in the end."
"Glad I get him for two more years and look for great things at regionals and state tournament," said Phillips.
Fellow Crusader Nick Auer took sole fourth place with a 73.
Heights took third in the field. Top golfer Hunter Liechner carded a 78 in the final pairing, teammate Zach Pitcher finished with a 74. East took fourth as a team.
