The last time the Hays girls were Western Athletic Conference basketball champs was in 2003. Infact that year they were actual coming off back to back titles. Heading into Tuesday's action, the Lady Indians already new they would at least share the title. It would be theirs outright with a win over Dodge City.

The Lady Indians never trailed in the game, though Dodge certainly stayed within striking distance in the first half.

The second half, a completely different story. Hays went on a 13-2 run and then they hit 14 of their 20 free throws down the stretch to pick up the 53-37 victory. The Lady Indians were lead in scoring by Paige Lunsford who had 21 points. They are now 7-0 in the WAC and 15-4 on the season.

In the boys game, the Dodge City boys wrapped up at least a share of the WAC title, by knocking of the Hays boys. But if was a hard fought win. Dodge went on a 9-0 run that spanded over the first and second quarters to open up an eight point lead. But Hays ended the half on a 9-1 to tie it at 17 at the break.

Just as in the girls game, a second quarter run was the difference in the game, as the Demons went on a 16-3 run that Hays could never recover from. Dodge City pulls away for the 42-31 victory.

The Demons can wrap up on outright WAC championship with a win over Liberal on Friday. If they lose, they will share the crown with Garden City.
