Junior Clay Holden and Senior Chase Atnip were the No. 2 seed in the regional tennis tournament that took place on Friday, May 6. The Collegiate tennis duo had three very rigorous matches and qualified for the state tournament.

Clay and Chase defeated two Hutchinson Trinity teams to make it to finals against Independent.

“We were looking to qualify, and we were really glad to make it to the finals,” Holden said.

They were defeated in the finals by Independent with scores of 6-3 and 6-1.

Clay and Chase realize that they are not shoe-ins for any title and that they will have to work hard.

“After playing in the very tough regional, I feel like we have seen the tough level of competition,” Chase said. “We know what it is going to take in order for us to be successful at state.”

The whole Collegiate tennis squad is working together to be ready for state.

“We have to come together in order to keep the Collegiate tennis legacy going,” Chase said.

Chase and Clay have otherwise had an almost spotless season with a record of 15-1. They are both very excited for their state tournament chances.

“I feel that Clay and I can make a big impact at state. We have worked hard this whole season in order to be ready for this opportunity,” Chase said.

The state tennis tournament will take place at Hillsboro this Friday and Saturday, May 14-15.
