The AVCTL Div. II girls tennis tournament has put an end to the regular season with Arkansas City taking a team title. The Bulldogs edged Andover Central by 4 points to get the win. Ark City took advantage of strong doubles play taking first and third places to rack up 25 of the team’s 44 total points. The Jaguars outscored the Bulldogs in the singles bracket, taking both the top spots with first and second place finishes, but didn’t have enough in the doubles to hold off Ark City.
Andover Central picked up a win in the singles bracket with the No. 3 seed Amy Fugit. Fugit’s teammate Megan Wong took second after defeating the top-seed Gwyneth Schuler from Maize South 6-3, 7-6 (7-1) in the semifinals. Schuler took third with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Ark City’s Heidi Klaassen.
The Ark City doubles team of Courtney Saia and Janelle Headrick took home a league championship as the tournament’s No. 2 seed. The Bulldog duo outlasted Andover’s Abby White and Abby Kaff in the championship game, winning 6-3, 7-6 (7-1).
Ally Burr and Makenna Gonzales were the top-seed, and gave Ark City a third-place finisher with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Valley Center’s Katie Baugess and Jill Seidl.
