The 2012 All-State Softball teams have been released by the Kansas Softball Coaches Association.
In the 6A list, Olathe schools dominated the first team with the Sunflower League showing its depth of talent after an Olathe East state championship. Maize landed a pair of players on the first team with catcher Kate James and shortstop Kelsey Stewart receiving the honors. Derby’s Kennedy Long, Montanna Whiteman, and Hayley Hume all made the second team.
Two-time defending 5A state champion Bishop Carroll picked up three nods on the 5A first team. The battery of pitcher Jessica Haffner and catcher Lauren Buchanan, along with outfielder Huter Hogan all picked up first team honors. Hannah Hearld from Hays got on the first team as a utility player.
Andale/Garden Plain completed a three-peat at the 4A state tournament, and after a pitching season for the ages, Sydnee Eck will go out with first-team all-state honors. Indian teammate Kelsey Harlow will join Eck on the first team.
After breaking through in the 3A state tournament, and winning a championship with an eight-inning game on Friday and a 13-inning marathon in the title game, the Trojans get a pair of first team players with pitcher Allie Weber and infielder Danae Bina. Sammy Koons and Steph Sanders give Hillsboro a pair of second-teamers as well.
Chase County used eight innings in the semifinals against Ell-Saline to get to the championship win against top-seed Udall in the 2-1A state tournament. With six first team all-state players, it is no wonder Chase County pushed through the post season undefeated. Taylor Heins, Annie Jirak, Cassidy Kelsheimer, Mikayla Potts, Megan Jirak, and Alex Snovelle all made the first team for the Bulldogs. Brianna Potter and Alissa Wells represent Chase County on the second team as well.
