It was another big year for the football teams in the Greater Wichita Athletic League, qualifying five teams for the state playoffs, with two going to the semifinals, and Wichita Heights finishing second in the state in 6A.
The city league coaches voted on all-league teams, and the results of the standings closely mirror the all-league selections.
Wichita Heights not only took home a GWAL championship, but also placed 12 players on the First Team. Rick Wheeler was named the coach of the year, his second consecutive year to win the award. Bishop Carroll took seven spots on the First Team, and Northwest had four.
