The Augusta Lady Orioles soccer team scored their most goals in a single-game this season by beating the Circle Lady Thunderbirds 2-0 in Towanda for their first win of the season. Jordan Kraft and Angie Danler both were responsible for putting the ball in the back of the net.
“It was a good win for the program, it was a good win for our girls because we lost two of our best players to ACL (injuries). It was good to see our girls score a goal, it was only our third goal we’ve scored this season,” said. Head Coach Monty Rowland.
Not only were the Lady Orioles excited to get multiple goals but starting goalkeeper Taylor Childers earned a clean sheet for the first time this year.
“Taylor’s first team in state in (goal) keeper from last year and she has seen shot after shot on her and deserves everything she gets,” said Rowland.
Augusta struggled the contain possession in the first half but managed to get control of the ball in the second half to keep the Lady Thunderbirds from knocking on their door.
“The first half was kind of flat, we didn’t play possession ball really well but the second half was much better and the result showed,” said Rowland. “We’re a better possession team than we showed in the first half by far compared to the second half.”
While the Lady Orioles finally got their first win of the season, the Lady Thunderbirds are still searching for victory number one in their 2012 campaign as their record now stands at 0-7. Augusta now sits at 1-9. Circle will next take the road on Monday, Apr. 23 to face Wichita Trinity while Augusta will play at home against Rose Hill.
